Why should you buy How to Save Christmas in Just Six Weeks (Some Appliances Required)?

It's fun, for one thing. It takes a semi-irreverent tone with the idea of the North Pole as the home of Santa and his elves. It has a sweet love story, and it might even be inspiring.

But the most important reason to buy this book is in the Afterword.

Most of the characters in this book are based on a friend of mine and her family. For their privacy, I changed their names, all but one.

Nate, the main character's twelve-year-old brother-in-law, has the same name he has in real life. I did this because the real Nate has invasive brain cancer, and is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, RI.

This story was inspired by him and by his family, who are supporting him through this horrible time in his life. For that reason, all money raised through its sale goes to his family, to help defray the cost of his treatment.

To one of the most amazing families I've ever met: Merry Christmas.

What happens when an elf with writer's block meets a young lady with big ideas? Misunderstandings, at least at first. But Adam and Brittany are able to overcome the troubles of their first meeting and become friends. Can they take it farther and fall in love? Or rather, can they admit that love to one another? Will the magic of Christmas make it any easier for them? And what is a dryergate, anyway? ::: "Adam? What kind of elf name is Adam?" Brittany pulled her fleece hat down and double-checked the zipper on her coat. "What would you prefer, Elrond? Don't answer that," Adam quickly added, seeing her starting to open her mouth. :::
