A first short collection of poems, prose poems, short poems & experimental forms. Includes an experimental form I created called: Cleave poetry. One of the poems: ‘A portrait of death as an artist’ was first published in the winter 2008 issue of Poetry News. It also came a close second in the Hamish Canham Poetry Prize for that year. This is the judges verdict on it: "We had great trouble choosing between the last two poems. Phuoc-Tan Diep’s ‘Portrait of Death as an Artist’ is a powerful evocation of the aftermath of war. Through the metaphor of Death as a painter, we are invited to reflect on how, even long afterwards, the melancholy aesthetics of death persist. Through still and spare language, the pathos and loss of war are wonderfully evoked."

In a post-millenial age what do poets have to offer a fragmented and searching Society?

Is the pendulum swinging from analysis and fragmentation to synthesis and fusion? After analysis comes synthesis - and the creation of The Cleave poetic form. There are signs that our age will become an age of co-operation, fusion and synergy. Join us at the beginning of this exciting and radical poetic form that has the potential to embody these core values. Submit your Cleave poems, no matter how faltering your steps are initially. We can all learn together along the way.
