Based on his experience with type 2 diabetes, Toma has written an important book about controlling blood glucose with diet.

Among other things in this 172 page book are;
  • By far the most complete directory of sweeteners
  • Emphasis on the value of omega 3 and what type of omega 3 we need
  • The glycemic index and its value for people with diabetes
  • A list of low glycemic foods
  • Emphasis on low sodium and the sodium potassium balance
  • Discussion of the protein-carbohydrate-fat ratio and how to balance it
  • The difference between the good fats and the bad fats
  • The foods that help lower blood glucose

Toma tells his personal story about dealing with type 2 diabetes. When he was diagnosed he had extremely bad labs and was close to death. He shares the information that helped him restore his health and achieve normal labs, get off medications, and maintain normal blood glucose readings and normal A1C with diet without medications.

I have been writing about diabetes for more than 12 years. I have written hundreds of magazine and on-line articles, columns, blog entries, and Web pages about diabetes. But I even learned a few things from this book. And reading his book has inspired me to resume taking omega 3 regularly.

Learn the SECRETS of controlling Type 2 Diabetes !!

Why are they secrets and why should I care?

Diabetes is a major cause of disability and of premature death. It is:

  • A major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (heart attack, stroke).
  • The most common single cause of kidney failure requiring dialysis treatment
  • The most common cause of blindness in people less than 60 years of age
  • The most common non-traumatic cause of limb amputation

Type 2 or non-insulin-dependent diabetes, previously called adult or maturity-onset diabetes, is due to defective metabolism of glucose by the body's tissues, with resistance of the tissues to the effects of insulin and a relative deficiency of insulin. The exact cause of type 2 diabetes is unknown, although there is a strong genetic component which is unmasked by lifestyle factors such as eating behavior, obesity and inactivity which precipitate the disease. Type 2 diabetes accounts for 85-90% of all diabetes and the number of cases is increasing rapidly in both developed and developing countries. In Australia, there has been a 300% increase in the number of people with type 2 diabetes in the last 20 years!! (source: the Diabetes Research Consultative Committee by Len Harrison, Kerin O'Dea and Paul Zimmet.)

Similar statistics are coming in world wide.

Finally! An easy to understand book for controlling type 2 diabetes by a diabetic that truly understands the issues and is getting good results himself.

In the US. the prevalence of diagnosed cases of diabetes was less than 1%. By the mid 80s the percentage of diagnosed diabetics had risen to 3% and by 2007 it had reached 7%. The prevalence of diabetes is expected to reach 14% in the near future.

According to the Australian Diabetes Society 80% of type 2 diabetics can be controlled by diet and lifestyle changes. Why is the American Diabetes Association mysteriously quiet about this statistic? Is it because their Board of Directors is dominated by drug companies and food companies?

One source claims there are 73.3 million people currently at risk for type 2 diabetes just in the U.S.

Toma found out Type 2 Diabetes can be controlled with diet and wants to share what he has learned with you.

From: Toma Grubb:

Dear Friend,

Imagine how many more people across North America and the world can benefit from just knowing how to eat better.

Just think how many kids, grandkids, and great grandkids would love to see us avoid an early death from something that can be avoided.

I had to learn these secrets for my personal use. Now I want to share them with you. There is good news and bad news.

Let me give you the bad news first….

It’s harder than ever to get the right information about eating properly.

I was shocked and dismayed to find out my medical team was not giving me the best information available!!! Mostly they just wanted to medicate me. I had to spend thousands of hours to find what is working for me. I have above average intelligence. If it was that hard for me how many people may never find it. That's why I call them secrets. Not because there is not good scientific backing for the secrets but because someone, for probably profit motives, do not want you to find them.

We are in a health care crisis because of the rapidly increasing number of people being diagnosed with diseases that can be delayed, controlled or completely avoided just by eating right. The Minister of Health for British Columbia in Canada said Diabetes is costing the province $700,000,000.00 a year. He further stated that proper diet and lifestyle could substantially reduce that cost. The same shocking statistics are coming in from around the world.

So why are food guidelines like the USDA Food Pyramid, Canada's Guide to healthy eating and similar government guidelines not science based instead of prompted by commercial interest from food manufacturers? In fact, why are food companies not more interested in providing healthy foods instead of profits? This is what Dr. Yoni Freedoff had to say about Canada's food Guide:

Canada' Food Guide to unhealthy eating.

canada food guide to unhealthy eating"Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating is an oxymoron.

Everything the Food Guide should be - an evidence-based, easy to understand and implement guide to lead Canadians to follow a pattern of eating that will minimize their risk of developing chronic diseases (including obesity) - it isn't. What's worse is that the proposed revision to the Food Guide, which as we speak is ready for it's release on an unsuspecting public, is still horribly flawed."

Source:http://bmimedical.blogspot.com/2006/11/canadas-food-guide-to-unhealthy-eating.html

You can easily find similar criticisms of The US Food Pyramid and most other common food guides. They are developed to satisfy food manufacturer's lobbys instead of the best science.

Have you ever felt if you could just find out what they mean by proper diet you would follow it, you would finally get the health you deserve? Now you’re finally going to get that chance.

I know from personal experience if a proper diet is followed, health can be restored. When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes I also had acid reflux, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and a few other things. just from eating right I no longer take drugs for any of the conditions I was diagnosed with. The possibilities are endless – but only if you know the secrets.

Here’s the good news: If you’re serious about getting healthier, I have an opportunity for you that could quite literally change your life for the better. I’m going to offer you something you would spend hundreds if not thousands of hours and dollars finding for yourself: the chance to learn from my experience. The picture above is me with an actual blood glucose reading. I want to teach you how you can get similar results.

Inez CarneyI was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and being treated by Kaiser Permenente. My Diabetes was getting worse and my toes were turning purple from neuropathy. In July of 2005 I saw the results of how Toma was controlling his type 2 Diabetes and asked for help. He showed me how to change my eating habits and made suggestions for reversing the neuropathy. My blood glucose is now well controlled, the neuropathy in my feet has been reversed and my toes are now a healthy pink.

Do you believe any of these common myths?

1) “The best way to control type 2 diabetes is with medication”

2) “My doctor knows what is best for me and is giving me the best advice, after all he is an expert in treating type 2 diabetes..”

3) “All carbohydrates are the same”

4) “I only need to make small easy changes to to control my type 2 diabetes”

5) “The food companies will only make healthy nutritious foods”

6) “I can believe the food companies ads about their foods being healthy nutritious foods”

7) “the ADA is giving the most current and best advice for controlling type 2 diabetes.”

These are just a few of the myths that just ‘aint so anymore. But when you purchase my "Toma's Diabetic Diet, A layman's Guide to Controlling Blood Glucose with Diet", you’ll learn the insider secrets to getting healthy blood glucose readings. Most people are following old, worn-out advice which is doomed to cost them a lot of time, money, and increased health risks and get them nowhere.

Things have changed. And a lot of the old ways of controlling blood glucose just don’t work any more.

Data from the largest diabetes study of its kind in Canada
show that one in two
people with type 2 diabetes
does not have their blood sugar under control.

Moreover, the majority of patients have serious associated health conditions and complications,
such as heart disease, stroke, kidney and eye disease. The Diabetes In Canada Evaluation (DICE) study
also demonstrates that the prevalence of these diabetes-associated co-morbidities and complications is
greater the longer a person has the disease. This "disease burden" makes type 2 diabetes extremely challenging
to manage. The study results were made public and WERE published in the October 2005 issue of
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice.

Source: www.diabetes.ca/files/study-fact-sheet-final.doc

The Australian Diabetes Society says 80% of type 2 diabetics can be controlled by diet and lifestyle changes. Why is the American Diabetes Association mysteriously quiet about this statistic? Is it because their Board of Directors is dominated by drug companies and food companies? Who is responsible for 50% of Diabetics being poorly controlled? Is it the fault of the patients or the system?

Let me ask you a question:

How many people do you know who are poorly controlled diabetics or are at high risk?

Just in North America the number is believed to be 73.3 million people or about 1 in 5.

This ebook holds the key to ending misery for most of these people. Not to mention the savings in personal cost for treating diabetes, The reduced burden on the health care systems of the world, and a lower impact on the resources of this planet.

Toma,

Please feel free to post this thread for all to read and maybe benefit.

Definitely secrets. Or rather not common knowledge.
Thanks for the info. Very informative!

I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic 6 months ago. There has been a very steep learning curve to learn how to control it and your ebook, website and phone conversations have been very helpful and enlightening.

I did not realize you could make your own flour. Some of the other tips you have passed on have also been very helpful. This ebook and the links to your website makes learning what to do to control type 2 diabetes much easier. My Doctor and diabetic trainer did not give me enough time or information to really find out what I needed to do. I found your site from David Mendosa’s site. Then you sent me the ebook which was very clear and informative.

I have been feeling I have a lot to learn/understand about grains and
lentils. I feel my knowledge is at a high school level and there are several
more steps.

If someone had told me I would be eating 4 bean salad and liking it a year
ago I would have said they were crazy. My next step is to get a slow cooker
and steamer.

I have started using the diet software. Still in the very initial stage. It
will take a while to save all the various meals. I can see how it is going to make my meal selection and planning much easier.

Wife overcomes her skepticism about husband controlling diabetes with diet.

Laurie Grubb tells about husband learning to control type 2 diabetes with diet.In February of 2005, Toma was very ill. Over the period of about 3 months he had gone from achy, feeling flu like symptoms to almost 18 hours a day in bed. He was thirsty continuously and was drinking just about anything he could get his hands on, making frequent trips to the bathroom all through the day and night. Toma didn’t at that time have any medical coverage in Canada and refused to go to the doctor, thinking it was just flu and it would run it’s coarse. Finally I convinced him to go to the drop in clinic to get checked. After a short examination and some blood work done we returned home. The next morning the doctor called and said he wanted to see Toma back in his office right away. During that visit the physician told Toma that he needed to be in the hospital that his glucose readings were dangerously high. Not wanting to pay ridiculously high hospital bills the decision was made to make the trip down to Seattle where Toma has medical coverage. Toma asked the doctor how soon he needed to go into hospital and the physician replied right now and not to drive down himself but to take the bus seeing I was not able to go with him for work reasons. After arriving in Seattle at the VA hospital it was determined that Toma was in renal failure and his organs were already starting to shut down as a result of his blood glucose levels. Neither Toma , or myself realized how bad he actually was, much longer untreated, he would have died. After a two-week stay in the hospital Toma was released with a backpack full of medications.

Several months passed as Toma started to learn about the effects of foods and how certain foods could help him control his diabetes. Yes at first I was very skeptical that he was going to be able to make changes let alone changes that were going to take him off all medications but with a lot of, dedication, control and researching of what he puts in his mouth he has been very successful in doing exactly that, “Completely controlled with Diet.”

I'm sure you'll love my Toma's Diabetic diet - A Layman's Guide To Controlling Blood Glucose With Diet and the trial Version of NutriBase 7 Personal Plus.

I am not selling this ebook for a personal profit motive. Any money made from it will go back to reaching and helping more people. There are only two reasons there is a price on it.

  • A price is required to sell the book through lulu.com and to pay the affiliates who advertise the ebook on their sites.
  • Something given for free is not perceived to have value. People pay more attention to what they have invested in. The information in this ebook is priceless.

So, don’t delay. Nothing bothers me more than having to hear about people who's damage from the complications of diabetes is irreversible simply because they waited too long to learn how to control it. I had two aunts die slow painful deaths because I was too late learning to be able to help them. They died before I was diagnosed.

  • Pancreatitis in Patients Taking Byetta for Diabetes

    2008 Dec 05

IGPSdXttn3M Since the beginning of this site I have recommended good dietary practices for controlling blood glucose associated with type 2 diabetes. I feel it is better to use diet instead of drugs whereever possible. This is supported by the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study conducted by the National Institute of Health. http://www.niddk.nih.gov/patient/dpp/dppos.htm (Health.%20http:/www.niddk.nih.gov/patient/dpp/dppos.htm) After 2.8 years in the study, the incidence of diabetes in the placebo group was 11 per 100 people. In the metformin group, the incidence was only 7.8 per 100 people. But the diet/lifestyle group had the best results of all: only 4.8 of every 100 developed diabetes. In other words, diet and exercise were 38% more effective than metformin in preventing diabetes in high-risk people. Other studies have shown that reducing weight and increasing exercise improves ovulation rates and reduces male hormone levels. There's no question that healthy diet, exercise and lifestyle habits will significantly improve PCOS-related health problems, as well as reduce the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Note: Since the study was conducted there have been numerous studies published with better diet and lifestyle improvements that were not available or used during the study. I have tried to keep the site updated with the best and most recent information. During the 3 years I have been researching and writing for my websites there have been other warnings about the drugs used to treat type 2 diabetes. There have been some notable warnings including the diabetes drug Avandia (news/latest/glaxos-diabetes-drug-may-cause-heart-attacks.html), Prilosec (omeprazole) and Nexium (esomeprazole), (content/view/172/170/) the pain drug Vioxx and now a warning about Byetta. Byetta, a drug used to treat adults with type 2 diabetes has been linked...

Consumer Group Seeks FDA Ban on Avandia 10/30/2008 12:00:00 AM THURSDAY, Oct. 30 (HealthDay News) -- The diabetes drug Avandia should be banned in the United States because it can cause death from liver failure and poses many other life-threatening risks that greatly outweigh its benefits, the advocacy group Public Citizen said Thursday. The group said it has identified 14 cases of Avandia-induced liver failure, including 12 deaths. The cases were found in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Adverse Event Reporting System. Public Citizen's call for an FDA ban on Avandia (generic name rosiglitazone) comes as an American Diabetes Association/European Association for the Study of Diabetes working group unanimously advised against the use of the drug. The working group's statement appears in the current issue of Diabetes Care. The scientific evidence against Avandia is overwhelming, Dr. Sidney Wolfe, director of Public Citizen's Health Research Group, said in a Public Citizen news release. The timing of these findings should give the FDA the momentum it needs to act swiftly to prevent further needless deaths and health damage by banning this drug. Liver toxicity is the latest problem linked to Avandia. According to Public Citizen, the drug increases the risk of heart attack by about 40 percent, doubles the risk of heart failure and bone fractures, and increases the risk of anemia and vision loss from macular edema, a swelling of the retina caused by fluid accumulation in the eye. Use of Avandia declined after a...
  • Spices, Herbs Boost Health for Diabetics

    2008 Oct 21

Spices, Herbs Boost Health for Diabetics 10/17/2008 12:00:00 AM FRIDAY, Oct. 17 (HealthDay News) -- Spices may do more than flavor your food: New research suggests a shake of this and a pinch of that could also boost the health of diabetics. Researchers bought 24 herbs and spices and found that many appear to have the power to inhibit tissue damage and inflammation brought on by high blood-sugar levels in the body. The study didn't examine the direct effects of spices on diabetics. Also, spices are typically used in small amounts, making it unclear if those who eat them would get much benefit. Still, this gives people a tool to work with in terms of keeping their health as they want it to be, said study co-author James Hargrove, an associate professor at the University of Georgia. Hargrove and his colleagues were intrigued by spices because they're rich in antioxidants, which are thought to protect cells from damage. One can put a lot of antioxidant power into meals by using spices without making people fatter, he said. Because of the way they're prepared, herbs and spices tend to have low calorie contents. In addition, spices are cheaper than many other food products, he said. The researchers decided to look into the anti-inflammatory properties of spices. We said, 'Let's just go to Wal-Mart, get all the McCormick brand spices we can find, and check those. That was as complicated as our study design was. The findings appear...

Possible connection between BPA and Diabetes. We first heard of the connection between plastic bottles and food containers and health risks about a year ago from Health Canada and there have been voluntary plastic food container recalles in Canada. Below is the NBC video and the stories from CBS and NBC. The CBS version of the story. (CBS) Common baby bottles sold across North America contain very significant levels of a chemical linked to infertility and cancer, according to a report released by a coalition of scientists and environmental-health advocacy groups. The chemical bisphenol A, which is a synthetic hormone that can leech out of certain plastic when heated, turned up in nine different polycarbonate bottles commonly sold in Canada by three different manufacturers. Bisphenol A, or BPA, is used to make hard polycarbonate plastic, and can be found in many items, including hard plastic bottles and in a lining of tin or aluminum cans. The report claims 95 percent of all baby bottled contain BPA, a number which is referenced as according to ScienceNews.org. “The only appropriate response to evidence that a known toxic chemical leaches from baby products is to phase it out and replace it with safer products in order to prevent harm wherever possible,” report author Mike Schade said in a release. “Environmental health organizations from across the U.S. are calling for an immediate moratorium on the use of BPA in baby bottles and other food and beverage containers.” According to the report, Baby’s Toxic...

    2008 Sep 15

Tight Blood Sugar Control Helps Diabetics Long-Term The following article highlights the need for good blood glucose control for type 2 diabetics. We have known this for some time. The study is still using medication as the means of blood glucose control while diet and life style has been shown over and over to be the best means for controlling blood glucose for most people.(editor) WEDNESDAY, Sept. 10 (HealthDay News) -- Type 2 diabetics who tightly control their blood sugar levels early, even if only for the first 10 years after diagnosis, have reduced risk of heart attack, death and other complications a decade or more later, British researchers report. The same cannot be said for type 2 diabetics who control their blood pressure for five years after diagnosis, however. The benefits from blood pressure control are only maintained as long as antihypertensive treatment is maintained, the same group of British researchers found. It is real encouraging to know that a prolonged period of good [blood sugar] control followed by a prolonged period of mediocre control, can still have good effect on our health, said Dr. Ping H. Wang, professor of medicine and director of the Center for Diabetes Research Treatment at the University of California, Irvine. Humans are not perfect, it is quite often that diabetic patients go through periods of good control and not-so-good control, noted Wang, who was not involved in the studies. Now, I can go back...
  • Spices May Protect Against Consequences Of High Blood Sugar

    2008 Sep 04

Spices May Protect Against Consequences Of High Blood Sugar Herbs and spices are rich in antioxidants, and a new University of Georgia study suggests they are also potent inhibitors of tissue damage and inflammation caused by high levels of blood sugar. This makes a lot of sense since inflammation is one of the components of type 2 diabetes and anti-oxidants help fight inflamtion. Natures clues to us for finding good anti-oxidants comes in the form of food color and flavor. Some of the good anti-oxidants are in flavonoids. Flavonoids produce flavor and dark bright colors. Since spices are both colorful and full of flavor, nature is telling us they are good for our health. Now science is confirming what herbalist have been saying for years. Researchers, whose results appear in the current issue of the Journal of Medicinal Food, tested extracts from 24 common herbs and spices. In addition to finding high levels of antioxidant-rich compounds known as phenols, they revealed a direct correlation between phenol content and the ability of the extracts to block the formation of compounds that contribute to damage caused by diabetes and aging. Because herbs and spices have a very low calorie content and are relatively inexpensive, they're a great way to get a lot of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory power into your diet, said study co-author James Hargrove, associate professor of foods and nutrition in the UGA College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Hargrove explained that when blood sugar levels are high, a process known...

Diabetes And Exercise Yoga: The Stealth Health Booster These days, you don’t have to chant or wear funny clothes. Once the practice only of serious hippies and people living in ashrams, yoga is now as mainstream as the Stairmaster. Because it is touted to be relaxing, researchers have conducted studies to measure yoga’s effect on stress and health. One study, published in the May 2007 issue of the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, showed that yoga practitioners experience a 27 percent increase in levels of a neurotransmitter known as GABA after a one-hour yoga session. Low levels of this brain chemical are associated with anxiety and depression, so these findings point to the possibility that regular yoga practice may somehow offset that drop in GABA. Though the study was small, the researchers broke new ground using high-tech brain imaging to gauge the levels of the neurotransmitter before and after the yoga session, comparing the results to a control group of people who simply read during the hour-long session. Consider those findings in light of these: In another study from 2005, a group of 98 people were given blood tests at the beginning and end of a 10-day yoga-based intervention that involved yoga, relaxation techniques, group support, and lectures. In this short period, researchers saw marked improvements in fasting blood glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides. So, perhaps yoga — or the type of physical and mental activity that yoga involves — causes a tide of physiological responses that affect our health in lots of...

For those of us who are type 2 diabetics the mesage has special poinancy. To be our best we need to train ourselves to excel. Our competions are personal and we get graded on our performance every time we do a blood glucose reading or do our quarterly A1Cs. When I see my daily readings at 4.4 mml/l ( 79 mg / dl) or an A1C of 5.0 with out meds (Higher degree of difficulty) it is like an exceptionally high score from the Olympic judges. Instead of a medal, our prize is much better healt, quality of life and possibly even longer life to enjoy all the things available to us. Thank you Micheal Phelps for the out standing example you give us all and for what you are sharing in this video. As diabetics, our demons and sharks are the unexceptable diabetic complications we face if we do not excel at controlling our blood glucose Watch the Video and apply the concepts you your daily lives.

This led me to become very interested in the role of social support in disease management. This research I am leading now as part of my MSc in Health Promotion and Psychology is about the importance and the influence that online social support can have on diabetes management.
