Mrs. Rose Tangredi
My Memoir, "From the Door to the Gate", starts at the "Door", an opening in the wall that once protected the hilltop town of Noepoli, in Southern Italy. I was born a peasant but my unique situation allowed me to observe the lifestyle of all three classes. I write about the details of daily living that the immigrants didn't talk about once they came to America.
I came to America in 1934. My life here was shaped not only by the immigrant experience but also by the New York City school system which I entered as an apprehensive 12 year old first grader and in which I later taught. I lived through the the Depression, WWII, the move to Suburbia, and all the important events of the 20th century.
The story ends at the electronic "Gate" of a community for active adults.
Join me on my journey. You'll enjoy the trip.
