The Throckmorton Case

On Thursday, for the twenty-third time, William J. Throckmorton III—the presumptive heir to the Throckmorton billions—wrote in his diary: "I'll never fall in love again" with six exclamation marks!!!!!! The six exclamation marks showed that maybe this time he was serious. His mother—a woman accustomed to all the power and privilege that money can buy—firmly believes that her mission on earth is to run her son's life (whether or not he wants her to) and is secretly reading his diary. She has hired a divorce detective to help her discover the problem with her son's love life. The detective's job is to ask each of the women in William's diary exactly why she is not at present Mrs. William J. Throckmorton III. The stories that Bill's ex-flames tell comprise The Throckmorton Case. His mother will be appalled. You will be entertained. Can somebody like this ever get married and have the grandchildren that his mother wants? Who would have him? Follow along behind the detective as he tracks down the women in Bill's life one by one and find out. With a cast like this and a triple twist at the end, there’s something for everybody.

About the Authors: The Throckmorton Case was written by Our Writing League (OWL) of Bloomington, IN, as a team exercise in publishing. OWL’s membership is composed of IT and publishing professionals, academics, and librarians who live in and around Bloomington, Indiana. OWL was formed in 2001 following the successful conclusion of a creative writing class and has grown substantially since then.

While the chapters in which the girlfriends describe their relationships with William J. Throckmorton were edited collectively, they were written individually. Hence, they present the reader with a range of voices and ideas unlikely for a lone writer to create. The experiences of OWL's members are reflected in the wide-ranging action of the book, which takes the detective and the reader to such places as New York, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Bogota, Monaco, Berlin, and Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. The characters' (authors') points of view and voices are just as eclectic.

As with any writing project, the proof of the "pudding" is in the reading. We invite you to sample The Throckmorton Case by clicking this Preview link. .
