In 2007, inspired by paintings my reclusive father made in the sixties, I set out to create a series of thirty-four easel-size paintings based on the structure of isolated observation towers. The Tower Paintings: Keeping Our Distance documents the process and tells a story about how painters move forward, backward, sideways, then maybe forward again. Full-color images of the entire unedited series are included, as well as drawings and an essay about my penchant for local observation towers.
