A book of 164 pages. An author does not write a book without a purpose in mind. If he did, the book would not be worth the reading. The same premise holds true for this writing. There is a definite threefold objective here: 1) To present an easily understood history of the events found in Acts for the benefit of the average layman; 2) to provide a moderate amount of background detail on the events and persons written about in Acts; and 3) to give an insightful and meaningful commentary on Acts as this study progresses.

A book of 441 pages. This fourth edition of The Life of Christ in Five Phases is a substantial modification and improvement on the first edition. I cannot presume to say this is finally an exhaustive study on the life of Christ, but it does delve more deeply into who Jesus was, what were His reasons for doing the things He did and what His relationship was to the Father and the Holy Spirit. In the process the readers should find themselves irresistibly drawn to a closer walk with their Lord and Savior.

A book of 236 pages. After the original Essays on Pentecostal Terms and Concepts (1992), I have had to make some hard decisions. My theology has evolved since then and if I were to publish another edition of the original work, I would have to consider the opinions of my previous faithful co-authors. Not all of them see eye to eye with me on some of the topics in the new work, One Believer's Thoughts on Various Christian Topics. Therefore,I have compiled their writings into a new book titled A Consensus of Pentecostal Thought. It is a companion book to One Believer's Thoughts and the two books constitute a great presentation of what the Christian thinks about various words used by the Christian on a daily basis.

A book of 388 pages. This is not a “theological” book, replete with the jargon of theology. It is a book for all serious Christians and it is comprehensible by the average person. The entries are arbitrarily chosen as it is manifestly impossible to make the entries all-inclusive. This book and A Consensus of Pentecostal Concepts are companion books. That is, while either book is edifying and informative of itself, possessing both books gives one a broader view of Christian thought. They complement each other and having only one of the books is not the optimal status for the serious student of Christianity.

A pamphlet of 28 pages. This pamphlet is what the name says: it is a last-ditch effort to persuade the atheist away from his abnormal belief that there is no God. The attempt is not based on some profound, abstract reasoning, but is inspired by and predicated on love – the love of God for the atheist and the love of God’s followers for the same misguided unbeliever. This may be considered as one of the many efforts by the Church to reach the soul that is beyond doubt lost without a Savior to rescue him or her.

An 8-page pamphlet. I have written often about the doctrinal differences between the Apostolic/Pentecostals and the other denominations, but I have a limited readership. I do not reach enough people to make a difference. Now, however, that has changed. I have a confederate in this effort to show that Apostolic/Pentecostals and other sincere Christians are very close in their beliefs. This bold ally is Virgil Cox Jr. of Kansas City, MO. Elder Cox is the retired pastor of Good Shepherd Assembly in that city. As I am, he is the son of parents who were staunch Pentecostal believers for many years. It seems that God was working on Pastor Cox’s heart about the basic beliefs that Pentecostals hold so dear, at approximately (give or take a few years) the same time He was speaking to me.

Sweet will of God – it brings to mind the love of God within which that will is ensconced, making it impossible that God could ever do us harm but only good as long as we abide in His will. The will of God also reminds us of mankind’s salvation and of Jesus’ intense suffering so that we might have that salvation. It takes us back to the wonderful words of love and compassion He uttered during His stay on this earth. We remember how Jesus reached out to the rejects of society, the poor, the disabled, the mentally tormented. We want to touch on all of this in this discourse.

A 12-page pamphlet. Children brought up properly do not ordinarily question what their parents tell them to do. To a small child his parents are the same as God. They are the authoritative figures that control his or her little world. We should be childlike in not trying to apply logic to what is clearly God’s will. This does not rule out growing and maturing in Christ Jesus and attaining more knowledge and understanding. There are three parts to a race and a life. There are the beginning, the progression (moving ahead) and the end. We have to leave the beginning or basic principles of our faith and grow into what God wants us to be.

While frankly acknowledging my own imperfection, I can now speak to you candidly about much that I have learned the hard way. I hope I can, by the Holy Spirit, help you to avoid many of the troubles I encountered in life, some of which did not have to be: they were due to my selfishness and unwillingness to realize this Holy Way is without doubt the Way of the Cross. It is indeed a path of self-denial, a path I casually followed at times and without full commitment to the Savior who blazed the trail before me.

Ideally the youth in his early twenties should begin all aspects of this preparation, but I know of no young person who can hold still long enough to listen. They seem to think they will never grow old. Well, they had better hope they do because the only way to avoid growing old is to die young. Isn’t it a pity that we strive to live – for what? Then, for no apparent reason, I felt strongly that I would like to attempt the task. It has been an intriguing task and a difficult one because of the long time intervening between the life and the biography. All men are complex beings and Karl F. Smith certainly had his share of complexities. But God has demonstrated in the life of this man that He can take the yielded, complex and flawed person (which applies to us all) and make him or her an effective tool for good. The key to such use is that the tool must be yielded. Without controversy, K.F. Smith was that yielded tool.

How Can There Be Three Gods in One?How Can There Be Three Gods in One? (brochure)

A 12-page pamphlet. I agree...that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are each distinct one from the others. Yet...at times there is a subtle blurring of identities, thus: when the Father and Jesus are seen as one ("I and my Father are one" – John 10.30, 17.22) or Jesus is viewed as the Holy Spirit (“the Spirit of Jesus" – Acts 16.7 RSV) or the Father and Holy Spirit are co-identified (compare Mat. 1.20 in which the Holy Spirit begot Jesus – and the one who begets is always the father – with the many times Jesus refers to the Father as MY Father). But...are they not all ONE God? Are they not of the same essence?

A 12-page pamphlet. Not too long ago I wrote about letting go of the past. Whether you are an outright “backslider” who is now returning to Christ or you are only one who realizes you have made mistakes along the way, your sins prior to today are all under the blood of Christ. This of course depends on your repenting of those sins. They are done, and they are forgiven and forgotten by God. I want to emphasize that point in this essay.

Does God Require Us to Keep the Ten Commandments?

Does God Require Us to Keep the Ten Commandments?Does God Require Us to Keep the Ten Commandments? (brochure)

A pamphlet of 16 pages. There is some ambiguity as to how the old Mosaic law, especially the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17), applies to us today. Some say it has no relevance for us, and some aver that we should obey each injunction of the Ten Commandments. We should note two things: 1) Jesus did not destroy the law; and 2) He fulfilled it. The law has indeed been discarded (Heb. 8.13) as far as it concerns us directly, but it has not been destroyed: Jesus fulfilled it in Himself. It is no longer directly applicable to us today, but there are many tenets of the Old Covenant that Jesus and the apostles inculcated in the New.

Reaching for the Moon

A pamphlet of 16 pages. Spiritual ambition is quite a different cup of tea from the purely secular brand. Spiritual ambition has more restrictive boundaries and limitations. There is not as much freedom to connive and to manipulate people. Nor can you step on your brother’s back to attain your goal. Spiritual ambition is driven and guided by LOVE. The Christian who wants to “be somebody” has to operate by the laws of selflessness and reaching out to help others. This of course casts a pall of divine rejection on any work, great or small, that is based on any other motivation.

A 12-page pamphlet looking in awe at the wonders of the all-enveloping Spirit of God. We know there is one common denominator between God and every thing and creature that is in the universe: they EXIST. Man, animals, angels, even space and time, are things that are; therefore, they exist. God, however, is a very special existence. He, with whom Christ is one, is the only uncreated existence and the original and eternal Existence from which all other existences spring.

The essays in this book, Just Between You and Me, vol. II, are a continuation of Just Between You and Me. They consist of comments I have written in church bulletins during the years covering 2004 and 2005. They are in chronological order although not all of the comments within that time frame are included. I have always written the bulletin comments with the aim of helping someone else. If you are looking for love, it is in these comments. I yearn to draw my brothers and sisters, while at the same time heeding my own need, closer and closer to God. I want to “scale the utmost height and catch a gleam of glory bright” – and I want you to come with me.

In this discourse we will not attempt to make you believe the Bible. We are assuming that you have that basic belief. From there we will try to help you see what God wants you to do as He outlines it in His Word. We want to open up to your eyes what has been secreted away in the Bible for centuries, just waiting to be revealed, not to the masses – they don’t use their wonderful God-given brains to dig into such matters – but to the sincere individual who cares about what God wants him or her to do. So if you are that “sincere individual,” we ask you to read this discussion with an open mind and a prayerful heart. Give God a chance to show you what He wants you to do. Just this one time let Him lead you without your trying to make excuses for the things you don’t want to believe or don’t want to do. Believe in Jesus Christ and give up to Him totally.

This book consists of comments written by Aaron J. Smith, who was the editor of a Sunday church bulletin during the years covering 2000 and 2003. Originally written on a weekly basis, in book form they are somewhat like daily devotional reading and are meant to edify, exhort and comfort those who read them.

This 16-page pamphlet is a revision of another pamphlet of the same name. Considering the foreknowledge of God, the question emerges: Is there a tincture of predesti¬na¬tion here or is it true that each person has been given free choice in what he makes of his life and what his final destination will be? Where does chance enter the picture, and are we correct when we assert there is no chance element in the life of the believer?

A 12-page pamphlet. Christianity is a New Testament phenomenon that nevertheless has its roots deep in Old Testament soil. We shall not primarily consider the Old Testament Law and demands made by God on the Israelites, His chosen people, because that is another subject. I will only remind you that the Old Testament Law pointed to the New Testament’s Jesus Christ and His suffering and crucifixion and rising again and His laying out for us the Way of Holiness, which is true Christianity.

A single-page flyer printed on both sides. God has not guaranteed us a life without struggle. He has not promised that we will always have ideal conditions in this life. It is logical, therefore, to assume that our lives may be stressful at times. But He has said that He would give us peace.

A pamphlet of 4 pages. If a person claims to have been spiritually born again, he has to show some signs of life. “Life” in this instance does not mean a lot of whooping and carrying on (which are all right in their place) nor does it involve the latest dance step that is brought into the church world from the other world outside the church’s purview. Anyone who is of the right temperament can do the shout and dance the dance, but can they live the life? What signs of life should the new convert exhibit?
