It's said that Ravel wrote this to surpass Islamey difficulty.
It achieved superb complexity, but quite unrelated to "Islamey", it's instead an aparently slow paced more romantic and more impressionist piece. Complex and unreal. A dream in a dream place.

One of the few that could perform "Islamey". He could also write in conformity. A technical highly demanding piece, but really sweet and poetic, like Spring, birds, very much in the style of Paganini's "La Campanela".
