Stacy DeBroff - - - "This book is beneficial to every child who is lucky enough to have a parent, a grandparent, or an older sibling to take the time to use it.... I know of no other outside-the-classroom literacy resource for young children and their families that's so thorough and yet so easy to understand and use immediately."
- Dorothy Aronoff - - - "As a former teacher and now a mom of 2 young children, I highly recommend this book to parents, grandparents and care providers who want to help their children get a running start on reading. This book is NOT a "drill and kill" get-your-child-reading-by-age-4-in-100-easy-lessons-or-else manual. It's all about how to deliberately expose your child to good literacy principles in a fun, engaging, natural way. The book even includes reproducible printouts of materials so you don't have to hunt them down yourself (who has time for that?)! I also plan to order this book as a gift for my sisters and friends of little ones." - Review from Amazon.com - - - "The best thing about Bonding While Learning is that it arms parents with the tools they need to make educational time interactive and fun -- at home, at the park or on-the-go."
- Go Baby® - - - "We are delighted with [Bonding
While Learning]. Since I'm a grandmother
with an interest in reading to her granddaughter,
and a person with no background in teaching reading,
it is a wonderful resource. And just the sort of
thing that I need. - Anne Schink - - -
"Wow this book is really great! I loved the fact that in the beginning it gave important information about the book and the authors. It is also great that it explains how to praise your child for their accomplishments. The activities and the materials provided were easy to understand and work with and provided time for me to sit down individually with my child and work on them. He was very excited to work on the different projects and we often did more than one at a time at his request."
- iParenting Media Awards Reviewer - - - "I'm a single mother
with a full time job. Teaching my son before
was difficult and frustrating. Now that I have
Bonding While Learning, I find it much
easier to teach my son and see his progress as
we go along.
- Teresa Lopez - - - "The book came so quickly in the mail. I've gotten a couple of pages through it, and love it. It's put together so well, and so clear and simple to follow." - Jaime Friedman - - - "I read this book and it gave me a great perspective into helping my kids learn how to read. We have made tremendous strides since doing some of the activities. My kids are at the point where reading has become more enjoyable. I highly recommend this as a teaching method for parents and their children." - Posted by a reader at Barnes & Noble.com - - - "Your book is a big hit at Mann Family Early Childhood Center of Wilshire Boulevard Temple. "The Director...loved it and asked me to provide three more books for her teachers who teach the 5 year old classes. The 17 moms in my son's class who received it loved it too!" - Robin
Broidy - - - "This book did an absolutely fabulous job of giving parents and care takers a wide range of ideas to incorporate reading into everyday fun and games. It was broken down into easy chapters, gave wonderful hints on keeping things fun and engaging, was very positive and overall very motivating for both parent and child. I appreciated that all materials were included for each activity. The advice given was very specific and age appropriate and gave ideas for different stages of a child's development. It would be a very valuable tool for anyone who was wanting to teach preschool children at home. Also, the tips on teaching children who are learning English as a second language were very helpful. And the tips at the bottom of the pages incorporating reading into every day life were very helpful. Really made me as a parent think about how to make reading not only fun, but a daily practice. It was all around a wonderful tool!" - iParenting Media Awards Reviewer - - -
"It's an answer to all of the questions I've had." - Rosalina
Leyva - - - "I love this book's activities because they're not only helping me foster a love of reading in my child and helping him learn to begin reading and writing, but also because the activities really are (per the title) bonding activities. One activity in the book, called "What Should We Talk About?", even has me telling my son stories about my own childhood that I wouldn't have shared with him without the book's wonderful prompts. These special moments have been precious. I have a ton of worksheet books at home, and they just don't compare to the learning and sharing this book facilitates. I can't recommend this book highly enough." - Review from Amazon.com
The 'Bonding While Learning: Activities to Grow Your Relationship While Preparing for Reading Success' book is an excellent tool for helping your child to begin to read. The activities throughout the book can be done in any order you and your child prefer. My daughter really enjoyed this book. - iParenting Media Awards Reviewer - - - "It is an excellent resource for
[AmeriCorps] members, offering easy to implement
activities. I am so impressed by the addition of the
"Materials" section to make the activities complete. The
visuals are good throughout the book and excellent in
the "Materials" section. The book offers wonderful
guidance and ideas to [AmeriCorps] members, parents and
program directors. Thanks for the work that went into
this book. - Ruslyn
Hermanson - - - "The U.S. State Department reports that thousands of children are adopted every year from foreign countries. In combination with children growing up in first-generation immigrant families, this results in a huge population of new English language learners. Bonding While Learning takes into account this immense diversity and offers parents of multi-lingual children ideas and methods to support their child's English reading skills while respecting the gift of their heritage language." - Echoing Green- - - "I was
working with a group of teachers that worked with
infants and toddlers. From your book, I used the sharks
and letters game but modified it as sharks and colors.
We also discussed the strategy that works with concepts
of print that has the adult hold the book upside down,
etc. I gave all the teachers board books that worked
with a theme about colors and then a packet of
activities that I associated with the storyline/theme of
each book. - Caroline
Mitchell - - - "It is an excellent book. I think even grandparents who babysit would like it." - Marilyn Kourilsky,
