Phil Chandler

My name is Phil Chandler and I wrote the book - 'The Barefoot Beekeeper'.

My mission is to show you how easy it is to keep bees, without spending a lot of money and without giving yourself a hernia. This is low-cost, low-input, small-scale beekeeping, with the emphasis on creating conditions in which bees can best look after themselves.

My aims and philosophy are explained in the introduction to The Barefoot Beekeeper, which is a free download from this site. Take a look before buying my book.

You might also like to take a look at my web site at http://www.biobees.com - where you can read some more articles and look over the Top Bar Beekeeping Forum - a great resource for beginners and experienced beekeepers thinking of converting to top bar hives.

I hope to be able to welcome you there soon!

Beekeeping Simplified

Phil Chandler in Biobee's Blog
Monday 18 of February, 2008

So, here I am, lifting a comb from one of my top bar hives. Notice the perfect shape and organized appearance of the comb - typical of the work of bees left to build comb as they please.

This style of beekeeping requires no heavy lifting and so is particularly suitable for people with disabilities, who could not otherwise keep bees. In fact, it works for everyone who want to keep bees close to their natural state.

There is a lot of information and a lively forum at my web site biobees.comand you can buy my book, The Barefoot Beekeeper, on Lulu.com from here
