The Complete Edition:
Which is worse: to love your mother fiercely only to lose her? Or to never have a mother at all? Obie and Princess never debated this; being equally motherless forever binds them.
Obie's a former street child and junkie's son; Princess was raised in splendor on Park Avenue. When she's three Obie is her babysitter; at thirteen Obie's her best friend and confidant. At eighteen "Cess" dreams of being an R&B diva and Obie, whose "Rags-to-Riches" transformation into a music video superstar/director captured America's attention, knows just how to make that dream come true.
Inevitably Obie and Princess fall head-over-heels in love along the path to stardom. Their social-class differences, skin color complexes, a stalking ex-boyfriend and severe depression strain all their budding relationship, but when Obie's abandonment issues crash head first into Cess's need for emotional detachment the fireworks really begin. Then the question becomes:
Can a motherless child ever truly open his or her heart enough to love someone else?
Part One:
This version of the highly anticipated and much-talked-about Urban Drama has been broken up into two smaller parts, ideal for those who want to get a feel for the story without committing to a 500 page book.
Containing chapters 1-11, Part One follows Obie and Princess starting from their completely different childhoods: Obie is a former street child and junkie’s son, Princess was raised on luxurious Park Avenue, until the time Princess dreams of being an R&B diva at eighteen. Obie, who's now music video dancer/producer/director and a megastar in his own right offers to help.
Their lifelong bond, being motherless, has grown into a mutual attraction yet Princess isn't satisfied with being one of Obie's groupies.
Inevitably the two fall head-over-heels in love until, on the closing night of her second tour an ex-boyfriend shows up uninvited and unwanted and Princess disappears with him.
