Carolyn Lee Boyd is a poet, essayist, short story writer, blogger, and novelist whose work has been published in woman-focused literary, feminist, art, and spirituality magazines for over 30 years. Her pieces have appeared in such print and internet journals as Mused: The Bella Online Literary Magazine, Moondance, SageWoman, The Beltane Papers, the We’Moon calendars, Matrifocus, Women Artists News, and others. Some of her published writings as well as occasional blog posts can be found at her blogsite, www.Goddessinateapot.wordpress.com.
All her writing celebrates the spirituality and creativity in everyday women’s lives. “So often we look for inspiration and wisdom to women from the past or who were famous or even infamous. In truth, we are all extraordinary women living on the cusp between a world that still, in many ways, denies women the basic right to be who they are and a world many now envision in which everyone is respected as an individual. Spirituality and creativity are how we recognize and nurture the sacredness within ourselves and others. Once we do that, we have the faith and love that we need to make the world into the kind of place we want for our children and grandchildren.”
Over the years, Boyd’s writing has become more interactive, whether through blog posts that encourage readers to tell their own stories or in her novel, which can be read as a “circle” including the reader, the author, and the characters. “I’ve seen how simply telling our own stories and listening to those of others can give us the inner tools we need to do those important tasks we each must do, whether that is raising a family, or being a doctor or artist or activist, or any of a million essential roles. I hope my writing will be a catalyst for readers to value their lives, reach out, and inspire and be inspired.”
Boyd’s most recent project has been an interconnected circle of websites that readers can wander through, reading essays, poetry and fiction that, all together, present new ways of looking at the world that cherish and encourage women’s history, spirit, and art, in all their manifestations. The sites will continually and dynamically grow and encourage participation from readers. To start, go to www.Goddessinateapot.wordpress.com. At each site you will find a link to the others.
When not writing, Boyd tends to her falling down Victorian house, her family and friends, a black cat, and an herb and native flower garden. She enjoys witnessing and participating in the everyday adventure of small town life, whether that means watching squirrels digging for their dinners in her garden, or attending parades on holidays, or knowing everyone behind the counters of the shops where she buys her vegetables and consignment clothing. Sometimes she escapes to New York City where she magically changes into an urban punk poetess who takes the subway late at night and knows where you can get the best stuffed cabbage in all the five boroughs.
