Digitized images of South Carolina Council Minutes are colonial records for the entire year of 1766. Colonist came because they were promised land or they moved into an area and requested land. The first step in obtaining land in colonial times was a petition to the council, the council minutes record all those petitions for land. The South Carolina Council Minutes of 1766 even includes a petition for redress from a brother, who claims that his sister was kidnapped and forced to marry against her will.
There is a passenger list of immigrants from Europe who were promised land and seek petitions, in some cases even their ages are given.
Land was given based on headrights, 50 to 100 acres for the head of the household and 50 acres for each member of the household. During some time periods, children of 15 years of age could acquire land.

Digitized images of Camden and Kershaw District Estate Papers (wills, inventories and sales) Book A-1. Camden District from 1782 to 1788 and Kershaw District from 1817 to 1823. These records state that these have been called Will Book A-1 but should be called Estate Papers A-1, probably because there are inventories and sales included in the records.
These records include information on 2 marriage certificates; Wills, estate inventories and sales; Estate sales include the names of purchasers who are often family, friends and neighbors, often the younger members of a family will make a purchase at an estate sale; Estate inventories, lists of personal property, notes and slaves owned by the deceased when he died; Wills include the names of wife, children, relatives, friends and neighbors, executors and witnesses.
There are 500 pages.
