Quantitative Evaluation of Standardized Predictors of Graduate School Performance at Western Washington University

Quantitative Evaluation of Standardized Predictors of Graduate School Performance at Western Washington UniversityQuantitative Evaluation of Standardized Predictors of Graduate School Performance at Western Washington University (book)

Print: $12.97

Validity coefficients of predictors of graduate school success at Western Washington University fall in the range of .2 to .4 typically found in similar studies. Data from 2,323 students for the period 1976 and 1980 were analyzed. The correlation with GGPA was .19 for GREA; .05 for GREQ; .10 for GREV; .14 for MAT; and, .34 for VGPA. Correlations for selected subpopulations show some increase in the correlation coefficients over the total group. Subgroup correlations are compared with median correlations from previous studies. The MAT and GREV have high correlations with each other and correlate similarly with other variables. The MAT and GREV would appear to be equivalent measures. In an attempt to enlarge on the meaning of success, two criterion variables, GGPA and TIME, were analyzed. A canonical correlation of .34 (redundancy =.055) was found between these criteria and the group of predictors: GREA, GREV, GREQ, MAT, UGPA.

Two lines; Jacob Amick Sr. and John the Miller Amick lines settled on Sewell Mountain and descend from old Henry Amick who fought in the Revolutionary War. Two lines descend from Nicholas Emmick, old Henry Amick’s cousin, who also fought in the revolutionary war. One line was John Nicholas Amick son of Nicholas Emmick and his first wife Catherine Hertzel and he settled on Sewell Mountain; the other line descends from Nicholas Emmick and his second wife Susanna Smith and they settled out in Kentucky. Although the family name has various spellings early on; the families in West Virginia spelled it Amick while the Kentucky families spelled it Emmick.

After I wrote The Amick Partisan Rangers and The Amick Family in the Fight I found that I needed a resource that would give me the short stories that could be used on book tours and talks. I also thought it would be useful for a wider audience and this work is the culmination of that effort. These are the short stories to tell on the front porch and around the camp fire. Grab a glass of bourbon and light a fine cigar; throw another log on the fire and sit back; these are the campfire tales of the family in the fight…

The Emmick Family Cookbook Volume I

The Emmick Family Cookbook Volume IThe Emmick Family Cookbook Volume I (book)

Print: $14.95

This book started when I opened the recipe drawer and tried to find an old family recipe. It was a hodge-podge of various newspaper and magazine clippings interspersed with notes and junk. The book started simply enough and grew each year. Added to the book were those recipes that we didn’t have often (and sometimes never had) but because of historical reasons, we wanted to keep. I remember my dad making pancakes and shipwreck, and although we make pancakes the same way, we only had shipwreck a time or two. But still I wanted to record these for posterity. The first time I dined with Mary’s family, Dee had her famous jell-o; we had to add the recipe. The book grew until it contained many but not all of our recipes. We didn’t bother with the infrequent and we still try things now and again that aren’t in the book. We tried to re-create recipes, such as my grandmother’s cinnamon rolls that shouldn’t be lost.

The Judge / Maher Family

The Judge family is both the easiest and hardest family to document. Easy in that there are still relatives living in Ireland that will make future research easier and the Patrick Judge family is still close and stays in contact so this family has been documented. The hard part was getting information on the first family group in the United States. Much of this information is based on a letter from Francis Judge but little proof of the family has been acquired at this time.
