Wodan's eyes have been opened by the wasteland, and he sees the land of his birth for the first time. The ideals of the founding fathers have been chopped into meaningless soundbites to be regurgitated by politicians intent only on power. Wodan finds himself surrounded by a mediocre, heartless populace who are all-too-willing to sacrifice freedom for the illusion of safety.
But all dreams come to an end. Pontius, the ancient city of slaves, where personal identity is a matter of what gang one serves rather than individual merit, makes plans for a great crusade against Haven. Boris the Living Scar demands that his followers free Haven from her wealth, her decadence, and her backward reliance on scientific progress. And if his church should turn a reasonable profit at the expense of thousands of lives, so be it.
In The Pig Devils, the art of WAR, once performed so sublimely by the Ancients, will be practiced once again.
