"Erik's Sketchbook Diary" was a minimally popular autobiographical web comic born from a makeshift, collaborative comics community in Dover, New Hampshire. This same community went on to spawn the popular web comic "Squarecat Comics" and indie smash-hit "Johnny Raygun." This book contains nine entire months of my mid-twenties, with all the trials and tribulations one might expect. This document discusses the importance of rigorous design research in the development of an educational game for an academic research project sponsored by an established non-profit diabetes association. The goal of this project was to create a board game to engage children with diabetes, their friends and parents in the diabetic's daily personal health management, the self-management requirements of which are hard to understand and maintain. This project was the focal point of Erik Evensen's graduate research at The Ohio State University, and the book is the accompanying documentation.
