Apparently paying homage to Thorne Smith and "Topper", Charles F. Myer (real name Charles H. Myers) wrote a series of stories starring Toffee, a dream girl in the strictest sense of the word: she resided in Marc Pillsworth's mind. She also existed in the real world whenever she could escape Marc's subconscious. The Toffee stories are pure fantasy, are fun to read, and are a bit mischievous and spicy. Myers went on, under the pen name of Henry Farrell, to write "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" and "What Ever Happened to Cousin Charlotte?", both made into hit motion pictures. All ten Toffee stories are contained in this volume and all of the original illustrations from the pulps and digest magazines where the stories first appeared are included.

Tales From the Pulps reprints stories which first appeared in the old-time pulp magazines, the pulp pages of newspapers, the slick pages of magazines, and an occasional story which has never appeared in magazine form before. In this first issue, we present the first magazine appearance of Edgar Rice Burroughs' THE TARZAN TWINS; an air-mystery story by Frederick C. Davis, THE SKY PIRATE; a Crime Spectacularist story by Lester Dent (better known as Kenneth Robeson, who wrote most of the Doc Savage stories), HELL IN BOXES; Perry Mason creator Erle Stanley Gardner with THE POLICE OF THE HOUSE, an early Spicy/Breezy type story; and Otis Adelbert Kline, an Edgar Rice Burroughs contemporary, who wrote a series of sci-fi stories set on Venus and Mars, CITY SLICKERS. The stories are illustrated with the original artwork which accompanied their initial publication.

Pellucidar

PellucidarPellucidar (book)

Hardcover Print: $27.95

by Edgar Rice Burroughs. A traveler stretching his rug for the night on the warm sands of the Sahara, heard an intermittent ticking sound from the earth beneath his head. Digging, he unearthed a small box from which a small cable ran straight down into the sand. It contained a telegraph instrument. Thus was revealed the story set forth in this book -- the story of the adventures of David Innes in the vast horizonless country of Pellucidar, where the noonday sun shines perpetually and there is no time; and in the Land of Awful Shadows, screened by a pendent world, where the sun has never shone. And the story, too, of the search for Dian the Beautiful, and of the strange empire established by David Innes on the inside of the world we live on. Long available only with edited text, we are proud to present the original book version of this novel in the Inner Earth Series, and illustrated with the original book artwork by J. Allen St. John.

by Edgar Rice Burroughs. David Innes and his inventor friend, when they sought to test the practicability of their "subterranean prospector" made an amazing discovery. The two men pierced through the Earth's crust and found, instead of a core in a highly molten and gaseous state, a world, with living, breathing, functioning humans and animals, but a world still in the Stone Age. The hair-breadth escapes of the two men, the weird monsters encountered, the touch of romance and the manner of telling make this one of Burroughs' very best. Long available only with edited text, we are proud to present the original First Edition book version of this novel in the Inner Earth Series, illustrated with the original book artwork by J. Allen St. John.

Written by Robert Leslie Bellem under the Anthony Gordon penname, this is one of at least two adult novels which he wrote. While a little more explicit than his spicy work, it is still very tame compared to today's standards. It is a love story of Janie and Gil, and of all the troubles which come from Janie attempting to lead Gil to the best job available for his talents (packaging). When I first began reading it, I was dubious as to its quality and the story content, but being a Bellem novel, it turned out to be a good read.

The Lost World

The Lost WorldThe Lost World (book)

Hardcover Print: $27.95

Best known for his Sherlock Holmes stories, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has produced a highly interesting tale of outlandish adventure, of a sort to stir the pulses and arouse the wonder of even the "jaded" novel reader. He has his little company of 20th century scientists and adventurers test their courage and their skill against the huge and loathsome beasts of the Jurassic period. They fight for their lives with pterodactyls, see iguanodons at play, and watch the tragedies of life among gigantic dinosaurs. And they come upon a tribe of man-apes, missing links, and for a time it looks as if the 20th century would go down before the survivals of antiquity. Fully illustrated.
