NAS Squantum was the first naval air reserve air base and in most respects is the place where the naval air reserve training program really began. This book tells the complete story of NAS Squantum in 367 pages of informative text and 437 illustrations (including nearly every kind of aircraft assigned to the base). The book also covers the civilian aviation heritage of the Squantum peninsula including the Harvard-Boston Aero Meets of 1910 and 1911, the Intercollegiate Glider Meet, the Boston Air Meet of 1912, the B.F. Bob went to work on the New Haven Railroad's Boston Division as a steam locomotive fireman in 1942. Promoted to engineer in 1953, Bob ran local freights, symbol freights, and passenger trains across southeastern Massachusetts as well as between New Bedford, MA and the big Cedar Hill yard just outside of New Haven, CT. Bob became a Penn Central employee after PC took over the bankrupt New Haven Railroad on January 1, 1969. He then worked for Conrail after CR took over the troubled Penn Central in 1976. Bob retired from the railroad in 1979. The story of Bob Tweedy's railroad career is of great interest to anybody who is interested in railroading or trains. The book contains 159 pages including 27 pages of photographs (48 photos in all).
