Pin's ambition of fame and fortune as a composer and musician took a dramatic turn when he decided to learn how to take photos. While attending the University of Houston, a friend advised him to apply to be a photographer with the student newspaper and the yearbook. "I figured that may be the best way to learn and get practical experience, without having to pay for classes!". There, he shot anything from the mundane to the dramatic, from the trivial to the celebrated.

His venture into jazz photography did not happen until 2002 at the Trinity Jazz Festival. "It was listening to Ellis Marsalis play, while I was shooting. Something triggered, literally. I saw something real special, about the musician on stage, which I never noticed before". When the opportunity came about for some jazz photography work for Pamela York and Dr. Woody Witt, Pin decided to seriously explore the art form. "I am extremely grateful for all the friends I have made and have come to know in this field. They are all terribly nice to me and pretty much allows me to get away with anything. There is an amazing amount of talent right here in Houston, not to mention those who are making a difference elsewhere who are from here. I just hope that the images I have captured of these masters reflect the passion they have for the music they create".
