Francis Kerr Young was raised and educated in the Parish of Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He took further courses in engineering sciences at Coatbridge and Burnbank Colleges, Scotland. After a five-year apprenticeship in mechanical maintenance with Colvilles Limited in Motherwell at Ravenscraig Steel Works, he served five years aboard the RMS Queen Mary as an engineer officer. He immigrated to Canada in 1967 to work for a time at the Iron Ore Company of Canada, Labrador City, Newfoundland. Frank moved to Hamilton, Ontario and employed by Dofasco Inc. until his retirement. Frank writes competition poetry, short stories, and children’s stories and has won awards in all those categories. He now has four books to his credit. The Legend of the Mary Celeste and Other Poems (ISBN: 1-4116-5520-6), Hang on a Second! a saucy novel about a double murder at sea (ISBN: 1-4116-5726-8), Round About Christmas and Other Roundabout Stories (ISBN: 978-1-4303-0171-4 and The Paperweight A children's Christmas story by published by PublishAmerica (ISBN 1-60610-034-3) Frank is a member of the Kentucky State Poetry Society, the Queen Mary Association in Southampton, England, and is the current president of the Sea Cadets Old Buoys Association (S.C.O.B.A.), a support group for the sea cadets of RCSCC Lion and RCSCC Cougar in Hamilton, Ontario. He is married with two sons. Two beautiful girls survive his late daughter, Lydia.
