Books & Music Published by Authors and Musicians: Art for Humanity and Mother Nature...

The Earth is a large planet - getting smaller all the time. As particle accelerators probe the very small, and space telescopes the very large, we human beings are stretched in every direction. With one eye open and another closed, we look both inward and outward, using insight and outlook to span the eternal and the infinite. Art and science, religion and philosophy, psychology and ecology, Earth and Cosmos can all reveal their secrets - but only as we humans transmute lead to gold, while rising out of the ashes of the past into the Light of the Future...

Our Readers:

Our readers are more inclined to hike a trail than walk a city street. They're more likely to ride a bike than drive an SUV. They eat organic tofu and avoid genetically modified soybeans. They're more excited by the discovery of earth-like planet Gliese 581c than Paris Hilton cooling her jet-set thrusters in a Los Angeles county prison.

In watching television, they gravitate more toward Star Trek: The New Generation than American Idol. After watching The Da Vinci Code they're more likely to say they found the idea of Mary being Jesus' equal more intriguing than the suspense of a crazed priest stalking the protagonists across Europe.

No, we don't target New Agers. Golden Phoenix Publications doesn't target anybody, we just publish books that will one day be 'must reads'...

Are you more at home in the future than the past?

Do you think the present has been hanging on a little longer than it should?

Read Golden Phoenix and change the world...

Author Bios:

Jeff Barbour: Jeff thinks of himself as 'having just enough genius to recognize genius in others.' Inclined toward a broad range of interests, jeff considers himself a practical-idealist pushing the envelop of possibility without placing too much strain on the credulity of others. On any given day, jeff may be adding dialog to a novel, performing a kata, fingering a diminished chord, pedaling a bicycle, proving Pythagorean's Theorem, coding a javascript calculator or reflecting on the nature of time and space before the Big Bang. By night, jeff may be out tracking down a 12th magnitude spiral galaxy, watching a good movie, or deforming the topography of a futon...

Jeff says he wrote Ritual of Stone guided by the peculiar notion that it would be the one book future generations would want to consult if they wished to understand why their ancestors destroyed the natural world. Jeff wrote Blue Planet & Beyond to provide all the information needed by such heirs to apocalypse should they wish to rebuild an entire civilization and avoid a similar cataclysm in the future. Jeff describes End of the World, as the narrative for a documentary on the twin need for humanity to live in harmony with the natural world while preparing for the colonization of other worlds beyond the solar system. He sees the novel Farinara as an engaging way to explain 'the perennial philosophy' - a philosophy that just won't go away largely because it makes so much sense...

Jeff's says his books aren't for everybody - but should be...

Easter Island:

Our world is changing fast - and not necessarily for the better. By the time the children of the WWII generation have left their mark behind, their own children will either be blessed - or cursed - by their legacy. The soccer mom who buys an SUV to protect her toddler in event of an accident, may actually be destroying her child's future. That same toddler's father - struggling to provide a home while working for an advanced bio-technology corporation - may actually be taking food out of future mouths to feed his own.

How are such things possible?

Today, we are making the same kinds of choices made by a society found on an island of long ago and far away. Those choices made good sense right up until the very end. The world as we know it will soon be over.

The burning question is: "What will take its place?"

The answer is in the "End of the World as we knew it" and the new kinds of choices we can start making right now.

Easter Island is considered one of the most isolated places on the planet. There, in the midst of the South Pacific Ocean, on sixty-four square miles of rolling volcanic terrain, forty generations of human beings lived, loved, struggled and left behind a testament in massive stone statuary. In the process, islanders completely deforested a once burgeoning arboreal ecosystem and left behind a legacy of desolation for future generations to ponder.

Are today's skyscrapers yesterday's Easter Island stone statues?

The answer is in Blue Planet & Beyond.

From anthropology to exobiology, Blue Planet & Beyond explores the connection between Easter Island's past and Earth Island's future. From ecological sustainability to colonial starships, this book probes the fundamental choices we must all make -- one way or another...

Blue Planet & Beyond speaks for itself:

“That human hands have not always served nature well is the lesson of Easter Island and other lands throughout the planet.”

“Our Earth, like the island of Te Pito O Te Henua, can only stretch so thin before rents and tears damage its natural systems irrevocably.”

“The ultimate answer to all environmental issues is to find ways to emulate nature’s own mechanisms for self-regulation – rather than continue jury-rigging technological solutions.”

“With knowledge and discipline, we can build a new future on the foundation of the natural world. In failing to do so, that foundation will simply erode away beneath our feet.”

“… we humans have a destiny with the stars. But to fulfill that destiny, we must first get right with our homeworld – the Blue Planet.”

Easter Island - Te Pito O Te Henua - "Navel of the World":

For seven centuries, they worked the compressed volcanic ash of Rano Raraku crater. Seven centuries of shaping stone in their father's images. Seven centuries of separating tuff from caldera, tree from root, present from past. Seven centuries of muscling moai from stoney wombs to earthen altars among the high cliffs and low island coastlines. Seven centuries of ever larger and more massive tributes to a pattern laid down by long-dead ancestors.

Seven centuries of the Ritual of Stone...

How did it end?

Why did it ever begin?

What can it teach us today?

James slowly confided, “There was something, or someone, with us on that hilltop. Someone we couldn’t see, but could sense. And later, a little before dawn, I saw stars, not up in the sky, but right in front of me on the Earth.”

“You sure you weren’t hallucinating?”

“No sweetheart, unlikely. That earthly constellation also had a faint semi-transparent shape with a hazy glow looking exactly like…”

“Like, what? Come on Dad, you’re turning into some kind of drama king!”

“…Like a starry, translucent woman.”

“A woman! What was she doing?”

“Smiling, just smiling.”

For Booksellers:

Although Lulu does its best to limit costs, POD does not offer the kind of markups encouraging booksellers to place Golden Phoenix publications on bookshelves. At best, Lulu global distribution allows for a 15% markup and distributors, such as Ingram's, will not allow you return unsold stock. For that reason it may not be possible for you to place Golden Phoenix works on your shelves.

However with time, Golden Phoenix Publications hopes to print some of its more popular works in volumes that will allow for conventional profits to allow your bookstore to offset business costs and make a reasonable profit. Please contact Golden Phoenix Publishing to begin a dialog along these lines...

For Publishers:

Golden Phoenix encourages traditional publishers to participate in the distribution of its published works. Ultimately, our goal is to reach the largest audience possible. You can help.

Please contact Golden Phoenix Publishing for more information.

For Everyone:

Reading is an extraordinary way to learn more about yourself and the world around you. There's much of magic to be found in the written word. That magic expresses itself both through the imagination and ever-expanding insight. Golden Phoenix encourages you to read regularly. Words, and the thoughts they convey, can feed the fire of the mind until, like the Firebird of the Ancients, you rise like a Flaming Arrow into a much larger Universe...

For Filmmakers:

Golden Phoenix recognizes the power of the motion picture arts to fully realize its vision. The condensed version of Blue Planet & Beyond (End of the World) was specifically crafted to act as the basis of a documentary exploring the parallels between Easter Island and Island Earth. The novel Farinara began as a screenplay which later evolved into a full-blown novel...

Please contact Golden Phoenix Publishing to discuss how we can work together to make the large screen vision of both these works a reality in a theater near you.
