Print: $36.95 Download: $5.95 This is 2 books in one with 3 activities.
Here are colorful characters with contrasting lives. They come together at the fast-food cafes of the insect world. One is delicate, whimsical and carefree. Another is a no-time-for-liesure being dedicated to fulfilling family responsibilities. Their personality extremes are contrasted by dancing in the breeze, teeter-tottering on leaves, and then dodging one thing, only, to become stuck in another. Who can rescue who and will it be in time?
In the first pages is the story written in free-verse, lyrical poetry using end and internal rhyme with colorful pictures on each page. After the story are pages with pictures to COLOR-IN and even more for children to draw and write their own stories...
The story line of a BEE, BUTTERFLY, and SPIDER playing, working, and getting into and out of trouble may appeal to everybody. And all will have the fun of making-up their own names for them.
A list of ten potential discussion topics are listed in the back.

As a first year student Farahay didn't have the means to buy more expensive materials; so he made up for this by doing an assigned project over and over with the cheaper materials until he had the absolute best he could do. The rules in these studies were that you were not allowed to trace or copy, but sit in fron of a wall hanging print or original art and draw or paint your perception of it. It was done at Ohio University while he was majoring in sculpture in the School of Fine Arts... circa 1959-61.

Download: $1.95 m.l. farahay's, The Heron Hunts, 11"x 14-3/4" at 400 dpi from original pencil and pen & ink drawings and art-prints on Bienfang's 11"x 15" cut down to 11"x 14-3/4", 140 Lb., white, textured, water-color paper. This is the posture ( abstracted in some anatomy to emphasize the subtle beauty in length and curvatures ) we most likely see of these magnificent hunters. They are quiet, have unwavering patience and deadly accuracy. Almost always seen hunting alone, they do have times when they come together. I have seen them sitting high up in trees to swimming in the water like ducks.

Download: $1.95 m.l. farahay's, The Herons Love, 11"x 14-3/4" at 400 dpi from original pen & ink drawings. The initial sketches were done at Rocky Fork Lake near Hillsboro, OH. The Heron seems like such a solitary hunter that, one may think you may never get to see them together, and it is more difficult to find such opportunities, but we all know it has to happen... right?

Download: $1.95 m.l. farahay's, The Heron Rises, 11"x 14-3/4" at 400 dpi from the original pen & ink drawing on Hammermill 65Lb., acid-free semi-smooth, ivory card stock. Only spontaneous sketching, for me, provides the best potential to capture the spontaneity of the bird launching itself for flight. The tremendous force and pound for pound strength, the speed with the obvious effort to stretch and reach ever higher and higher with each completion of the wings cyclic flappings, seemed such a beautiful transistion between being land-locked on earth to free flying and on, up to effortlessly gliding high in the sky that, I could not help but want to try and capture that initial moment of breakaway effort.

Download: $1.95 m,l, farahay's, The Herons Creation, 11"x 14-3/4" at 400 dpi CEP print from the original pen & ink drawing study done at a nesting island near the main marina at Rocky Fork Lake near Hillsboro, OH.
Studies were done over several years, and the pen & ink on paper studies were found, for me, to be the best means to quick capture the herons movements and posturings.
In memoriam of those who gave their lives at Pearl Harbor and their families who would never have chance to share with them again.

Download: $1.95 m.l. farahay's, The Heron's Fare, 11"x 14-3/4" at 400 dpi from the original pen & ink drawing done at the artist home. There were two large, stair-stepped ponds in the acreage in front of his home and studio. This particular bird would sometimes roost high up in a bare, old, dead conttonwood tree that had been struck by lightning sometime back. He would escape to there if threatened at the ponds, or sometimes just seem to be resting until everything looked safe. It didn't make any difference to him what season it was. He could be seen even when there was snow on the ground and the ponds were nearly frozen over.

There were plenty of opportunities for heron renderings as there were numerous ponds and lakes in this area.

Download: FREE m.l. farahay's, SHHhhhhh... It's Old Blue Eyes, 11"x14-3/4" at 400 dpi from original CEP print of ink wash & line drawing on Hammermill's 65Lb. Ivory Bristol card stock. Having run off the trailway just down from what has became today the corner of Harmony & Lazy Ln on Lazy Mt just out of Palmer, I fell asleep for the rest of the wee morning hours. When suddenly, I heard something just out my passenger side window. My old Ford pick-em-me-up was leaning precariously downhill. If the bear would have so much as tugged on it, we would of all been rolling down the mountain together. Download for Free |

Download: $2.95 m.l. farahay's, The Pioneer Club, Palmer, Alaska, 11"x 14-3/4" at 400 dpi from original ink line & wash on Bienfang's 140 lb. water-color paper. The Pioneer Club is where I celebrated the birth of our 4th child, Aaron. The authorities thought it may have been too much celebration, and so... As I remember, there was a pool table to the left and a doorway that went outside to a parking area behind the bakery. I can still smell the mouth-watering aromas wafting across the lot through the early morning hours... I should have stuck to donuts! This depiction could be considered a twin to Jon's Cafe in Hillsboro, and it was used as a graphic in my book THE O'DOME.

Download: $3.95 m.l. farahay's, Mountain Top Ram, 11"x 14-3/4" at 400 dpi from original acrylic paints on Irish linen canvas. After climbing to this summit a few miles west of Pioneers Peak along the Knik River, I sat on an outcrop of rock, put my rifle across my lap and lit-up a smoke. The ram came around from my right silently, paused for a second, looked me straight in the eyes, then disappeared to my left down an incline so steep I didn't think fog could even cling to it. This was in July. I started the sketches in our cabin and finished the painting later in Steffes quanset hut just up the mountain from their homestead. It was part of the one man show I had at the then new JC Pennys Mall in Anchorage.

The large, flat surface areas of the lake and surrounding lands always thaws first causing waters to back up till they can spill over the still frozen ice blocked gorge. When the gorge lets loose, it will fill the entire 3 mile wide Knik River bed up with rampaging waters and blocks of ice as big as barns all the way out to its convergence...
