Book Review:
“The author Elaine Haygood has created an innovative tale that explores Padirian gods and their fight for power in the novel The Enslaved.”
“The death of Z’Mad on the planet Padira begins the unraveling of the council. Z’han the daughter of Z’Mad the All – Father takes over her father’s position and becomes Z’han the All – Mother.”
“Oscal the Elder informs the council members that they have been living a lie in perpetuating that they are gods and rulers over the Padirian planet. Z’han is uncertain on how to handle this newfound information and because of her doubt and reluctance causes a revolt of the council.”
“Hidden agendas, murder and mystery surround everyone as Z’han is forced to realize for the first time what it truly means to be Azkil. She must make some difficult choices in order to save herself and others.”
“Readers who enjoy stories of mythology and science fiction should find this novel interesting.”

A preview of Chapter One, from: "The Enslaved"
From a distance, Pad Zeneral shown like a giant pearl set into the cliff side. A city of lush parks, fountains, sculptures and of course, temples. One for each of the 21 main gods or goddess of the Padira-Chief among them at the center of the city on its second highest spot was Z’Mad’s temple with its circular dome roof topped and rimmed in gold. White marble columns standing over 8 meters tall each lining either side of the path leading to the two, 5 meter tall doors made of the almost black schiran wood. All of the temples were architecturally of the same type here in the city though, Z’Mad’s was by far the largest. This was only fitting in Garvel’s mind. One could not expect He (SHE) who was Chief of all Gods to possess anything less. Reaching the entrance, Garvel turned and looked out at the city. From Z’Mad’s temple standing at the second highest point of the city one could view almost everything, from the parks and temples with their own gardens and sculpture courts, to the arena with its adjacent training grounds and barracks or the Padiran honor guard. Garvel could not help but allow himself a slight smile as the realization struck home that second only to the Gods, he, Garvel son of a lowly herdsman was now the most powerful being here. Turning to enter the temple where he would go to his private quarters to freshen up, meditate and pray, Garvel gave little thought to the huge circular complex of glass, and stone that stood at the highest level of the city. That, he knew was the place where the Gods congregated to discuss, debate and decide the fate of his world and therefore, none of his concern.
