Let New Voices Sing

Life Stories
I come to the field of management late in life. I wish that I know the management principles
earlier in my life and career, so I can avoid some of the huge mistakes I made in life. The purpose
of this book is to collect interesting stories from life to illustrate important
management principles for young people, so that
they could be exposed to the lessons from these stories early in life.

100 Favorite Poems
I enjoy reading poetry and selected one hundred of my favorites in this collection.
For each poem selected, I also added a little comment on what I like about the poem.
To select a poem, the first thing I look for is the sentiment. I look for poems
that can create or convey in the mind of the readers a particular sentiment. The second thing I want to see
in a poem is a nice structure, with vivid imageries. And finally, I look for poems that
are ``musical'', not only rhyme at the end of each verse, but also melodious in reading.

Mastering Software Project Management
This book is focused on applying the management principles in "The Art Of Business" (by Dr. Raymond Yeh and Ms. Stephanie Yeh) to technical projects, and specifically, to
software and system project management, where the author has many years of experiences.
Here, a uniform organization format will be used in the following chapters to discuss each art of business,
including:
provocative statements, key ideas and techniques, useful practices, examples and stories, and how to evaluate a project.
The focus will be on technical problems that one encounters frequently in software project management,
rather than on the mechanics of project monitoring.
The book also contains some new approaches and insights such as how to elevate the architecture of software system to a very high level by applying multiple leverages and how to do software process control through modleing.

Sunset Is Still Calling
This book collects my poem experiments from last few years. There are four chapters. Two for
original poems, one in English and one in Chinese. The other two chapters are for
English and Chinese rewrite of existing poems. In each chapter, the poems are organized into
sections according to the year it was written.
I started out to explore poetry by translating favorite classical Chinese poems into English.
This led to experiments to write English poems by using forms from classical Chinese poetry.
Further exploration included poems to
express diverse viewpoints, life philosophy, feeling, voices, poem as conversation,
poems about wonder, beauty, modernity, as well as poems to tell stories.
Many of my poems are based on rewrite.
Rewrite is my way to get to know a poem I like a little better. I do not try to
follow the original verses or meaning accurately in rewrites. I do try to preserve the sentiment and some imageries
in the rewrite.

A Whispering With Delight
This is my poem book about rewrite. There are 36 poems collected here, together with
the original. There are just two chapters, one on my Chinese poems based on rewrite
and one for English poems. Most of my rewrites are in Chinese. I have less problem to write original poems directly
in English.
Rewrite is my way to get to know a poem I like a little better. Most rewrites are translation, either
from English into Chinese or the other way around. However, unlike translation, I do not try to
follow the original verses or meaning accurately. I do try to preserve the sentiment and some imageries
in the rewrite. Those are the essence of the poem that inspired me in the first place. However,
by freeing myself this way, I find it easier to find nice sounding verses in the rewrite.

Bodhi Tree
This collection of 24 songs has three chapters. Chapter one is my attempt to compose music to some of my favorite classical Chinese
poems. A type of Chinese poetry, called Ci, were accompanied by music. There are many different tunes, each to go with a
different structure of Ci poetry, called Ci Pai. These melodies were mostly lost. I tried to compose some simple tunes,
in the manner of folk songs,
for some of these Ci Pai in this chapter. Chapter two are some of my favorite Chinese songs. I tried to translate the lyrics in a
way so that the English lyric can still be sung with the original melody. Chapter three is my attempt to take melody elements
or musical structure from famuous composers or songs and to try apply them to some favorite poems or songs.

Fragrant Orchids of Hidden Valley
This book is my celebration of the work of my father as a war hero during the Second World War in China and my mother as an accomplished writer of autobiographical memoirs. Part I and Part II of this book contain my translation, respectively, of writings of my father and mother. Part III of the book has two eassys to celebrate the work of several of my heroes: John Robbins, Father Damien, Si Ma Qian, Charles Vest and Richard Stallman. To me, they are like rare fragrant orchid flowers, not that well known, but were quietly giving
out their beauty and fragrance in some hidden valley, hence the title of the book.

Converse With Spring Wind
In this little book I have collected sixty of my recent attempts in English and Chinese poems. This book has three chapters. In Chapter one I try to use poems to express a viewpoint, such as beliefs, living philosophy,
reflection, social commentary, or to tell a story. In Chapter two I try to explore different voices, feeling, or sentiment, so I call it ``A Hundred Voices Spoken''. In Chapter three I collected my Chinese poems, some were a direct translation froms my English poems, and some were the other way around.

Five Willows Guy
This book collects translation of my favorite Chinese classical poems, some essays and favorite songs into English. The original verse in Chinese and its translation are given together for easy reference. Since each Chinese word has a single sound, I try to translate each word into English with as few syllables as possible. This is especially important for translation of Chinese songs so that the English version can also be sung with the same melody. As a result of this experience in translation, I am emboldened to try some poems in English. This book also includes a chapter on those experiments.

Follow Your Blessings
I always admired people who can give up the trappings that come with money and material possession and live a simple life. Due to multiple setbacks over last few years, this become a necessary journey for me. I found that indeed I could continue to live a very happy life in this very competitive society with very little expenditure of monetary resources. The essays included here are the result of this journey of reflection and discovery. Given that most people will not attain great fame or wealth in life, perhaps some of the ideas and reasoning here could be useful to others as well. I do believe most people could find happiness in life, whether one is rich, famous, powerful or not. I certainly wish you, my dear reader, to have a very happy life.
