When I first became interested in researching my family history I had no intention of writing a book, but had just planned to gather the information and put it in some sort of organized manner into a binder to give to my father. But as I gathered the bits and pieces of my ancestors' lives and marvelled at how everything fit together, at some point along the way the idea to actually put all that information into a book was born. I originally intended to confine the content of the book to my family line and the surname "Richardson", but as I collected the pictures and documents pertaining to the family I realized many men and women had made their contribution to complete the picture. For this reason I have strayed off my own lineage at times and also included as much information as I could obtain on the women who married the Richardsons because I felt their stories had a place in this book. After writing and distributing about 20 copies of the first edition of the book in 1999, primarily to my direct family members, I continued to collect information about the family and felt as though I needed to get a second edition published as soon as possible. This edition includes much of the new information that has come my way as well as the research from the original publication and is published in greater quantity so as to be available to more family members. I have attempted to gather as many records as possible and to notify as many family members as I could that this work was in progress so that they might have their families included. But, as anyone who has done any family research knows, the search is never ended and in so saying, I apologize for any omissions there may be in this book. I have also tried to correct any errors that have come to my attention and apologize for those I've missed.
