Welcome to the storefront for Ivory In Our Hearts, by Viola and Jim Halbert. Ivory In our Hearts is an autobiography in which the story of how an extraordinary God works through ordinary people comes to life.

"Their account is one of the most detailed, engaging and moving missionary biographies I have read," says Dr. Clyde Cook, President of Biola University, in the Foreword. Dr. Cook continues, "The story not only relates to their experiences in the Ivory Coast, but also their early history, the factors that shaped their lives, how the Lord brought them together, their education, their calling to the mission field and the challenges of furloughs. It is a primer on trusting the Lord to lead and guide....Of special interest are the choices that had to be made, including some heart-wrenching decisions about boarding school....By reading Ivory In Our Hearts you will be transported to another world, another culture and another experience."

What others are saying about Ivory In Our Hearts:

"In a time when everything, including missions, seems to have a short-term emphasis, it is refreshing and motivating to read of the results of lives given to missions for the long term. The lives of Jim and Viola Halbert clearly reflect that Christ's 'follow Me' is a long-term calling. If you're ready to look further than just the next horizon, you've found your book." - Dr. Bert Downs, President, Western Seminary

"In a society suffused with the superficial and synthetic, it is refreshing to read this stimulating account of the ministry of Jim and Viola Halbert. Their lives and ministry have all the hallmarks of integrity, authenticity, genuine humility, and true godliness.... Instead of glitz and glamour, what you will find here is the astonishing record of what God can do through the lives of a man and a woman who are prepared to obey Him fully and trust Him wholly come what may.... As you read this book you'll be blessed, inspired, and challenged to the very depths of your soul...." - Dr. John H. Redman, Executive Director, CBA of Southern California

Ivory in Our Hearts: The Special Work of God in Our Lives
JIM AND VIOLA HALBERT served as missionaries for 29 years, mostly in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) of West Africa. Viola wanted to be a missionary from the time she was five years old. Jim made his commitment as a teenager. Initially they pioneered in an area previously unreached by the gospel. They saw the Senoufo tribe churches grow from one believer to over 10,000. Their experiences included Africans being delivered from evil spirits and an African boy being made a human sacrifice. Viola was active in teaching children and women as well as providing a ministry of hospitality. Jim frequently served as a speaker at missionary and African conferences and camps. He was also a leader in nationwide and continentwide inter-mission cooperative ministries. He was knighted by the Ivoirien government “for eminent services rendered to Côte d’Ivoire.” “Ivory in Our Hearts” contains photos and maps, an 18-page index, and a foreword by Dr. Clyde Cook, president of BIOLA University.
