Early Eastern Kentucky County Court Records (see below for description)

These books are transcriptions of the original County Court records with their respective dates. Some were transcribed from the original books while others were from microfilm. They each include reference maps and most have lists of persons authorized to perform matrimony.

These records include: road orders (showing lists of workers), Revolutionary War pension applications, officials bonds, tavern keepers and rates, ferry keepers, apprenticeship bonds, appointment of: estate administrators, guardians, election officers, constables, deputies, etc., disbursement of claims against the county, appointment of commissioners for various purposes, tax collection information and rates, districting the county (election precincts, tax precincts, constable districts, etc.), appeals from the justice of the peace courts, emancipation of slaves, description of offical buildings (courthouse, jail, etc.), etc. These records are useful for genealogical and historical reference.

The early counties were larger than their present boundaries and thus included parts of various surrounding counties (see front cover). The front cover of each book shows a map of the county at the time the records were created (dark black lines) on top of the current county boundaries (light blue lines).
