She was diagnosed in October of 1984 at the beginning of her senior year at Walnut Hills High School. She has been in remission since her initial treatment. The Beginning examines her initial diagnosis and treatment. The Aftermath is her experience after treatment was completed, followed by marriage and divorce. The Reconciliation is her desire to bring peace to her past and present and to honor her friends and family who have supported her over the years.
