Poet Julie Ann I. Pujol-Karel wrote her first poem while she was in flight from Cuba to Miami in 1962. In that poem she was asking God not to forsake her in the new land where she was coming to reside, hers was left behind because the island that gave her roots had been taken by the Communist Regime and she did not shared those ideas.
Ever since, she writes poetry, her themes reflect her convictions and beliefs with a unique sensibility to romance.
Her work has been published nationally and internationally, in English and Spanish in diverse anthology books, magazines and periodicals.
Among her many awards and honors she has received for her work, she was awarded a “Juried Poet” in 2004 at the Houston Poetry Fest through the University of Houston/Houston Art Endowment “First Friday” program for her work “Exile” in both languages.In 2009 Julie was awarded the honor of "Woman of the year on Literature", Her book Imposible Olvidar, was awarded in 2008 Best Poetry Book by Literacy Now.
Her book "Al Otro Lado del Oceano, obtained the Publishing Price of Millenium Press.
Julie is the mother of a son and a daughter, and the happy grandmother of five grandchildren.
She has an AA Degree in Psychology.
