We started with two rabbits. Then along came Tim, a grouchy 11 year old Border collie we adopted from the Blue Cross. After that, we got another rabbit, a guinea pig, yet another rabbit, and then a cat.
Living with Tim was fun, and it introduced my wife, Ronnie to the joys of canine ownership. So when he went to the great field in the sky, it was a no-brainer to get another dog. However, Ronnie and I decided to get a puppy. Now whilst I have had dogs all my life, they were in the main older rescue dogs and my wife’s experience was limited to Tim, whom we only had for 4 years. A puppy was a new experience for both of us, and an experience it certainly was. There were plenty of incidents to cope with, as our new puppy grew up, many of which contributed to the slow deterioration of our newly renovated home.
The stories collected here, are in a vague chronological order, right up to the point where our ‘new’ puppy reaches his eighteen-month birthday. I started writing this, when after telling friends of some of the things our puppy got up to, they urged me to put it in writing. To start with, I had not intended to write a whole book, how could I? Our fella’ was only eighteen months old. Surely, he had not done so many things that I could fill a complete book with the episodes. This only goes to show, how much a dog can fit into such a short period, and how little we both knew about puppies. A friend once said to me, “You get the dog you deserve.” All I can say to that is, I must have done something really bad in a former life. The first chapter is available to read on my Publishing Website |
