A piece of music that came about because of the boredom and frustration with an INSET day which was both patronising and a complete waste of time. I think the music portrays our feelings on that day quite exactly. We wrote it by alternately choosing random notes and rhthyms and equally random time signatures. Surprisingly, it has turned out rather well. Suitable for Grade 6+

A simple melodic carol written for and performed at the 2006 carol service of the Deanery High School. This lovely piece can be sung by either three soloists or SSA choir. The flute and horn part add extra interest. The horn can be either tenor horn or French horn.

This is the second movement of my symphonic orchestral work Praha. It takes as its inspiration the lives of the three famous kings of Prague (at least they figure on the Charles Bridge.) Wenceslas is well known and I chose to make some use of Good King Wenceslas within the texture of my music. Vitus is also well known as his dance is a cure for Tarantula bites, or a condition of restless fidgeting. I gave him a capering ungainly melody which is interspersed with references to the great river Vltava. Sigismund/Adalbert reunited Prague and the Czechs at a time of great unrest, though some think he doesn't deserve either his statue or his stature! His music is grand and imposing as regal music ought to be.

This is the third movement of my orchestral work Praha. It is modelled on the Slavonic and Hungarian dances of Dvorak and Brahms. I have chosen to place alternating fast and slow sections to add more contrast. This is my first orchestral work.

A song for high voice and piano that portrays the childlike delight of snow. The original poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow has dark sentiments of the dangers of winter, which are also depicted in the setting of the later verses. This setting uses a range of techniques to express all the emotions in the poem.

A piece for Soprano soloist, SAT School choir and small group. The style is more modern than my usual, and is aimed at rock/blues influenced choirs. This delightful Christmas number was performed at the Deanery High School Carol Service in 2007. The standard is fairly high, especially for the soloist, but manageable by most school choirs.

This is a setting for high voice and harp or piano of the WB Yeats poem of the same name. This was originally written as an A level exemplar, but has turned into quite a nice song. It has Celtic overtones, especially when used with a harp. It should be performed in a simple, direct style for best effect.
