English. Published in 1918, after the appearance of Karl Kautsky's pamphlet, The Dictatorship of the Proletariat. Kautsky criticised Lenin's State and Revolution and repeatedly reveals himself as an opponent of proletarian revolution and as an open counter-revolutionist. Lenin devotes himself chiefly to exposing Kautsky's distortions and vulgarisations of the Marxist teachings on the state, proletarian revolution and proletarian dictatorship, and to the defence of the Russian proletarian revolution. .. criticism of Kautsky, in his exposure of the counter-revolutionary content of Kautskyism, and in his analysis of the experiences of the Russian Revolution.

Empress Frederick died at Friedrichshof, Cronberg, in 1901. The main purpose of this volume of the letters of the Empress Frederick has been to allow the Empress's own words to provide the answer to those cruel and slanderous accusations from which her memory has suffered. They represent a regular weekly, almost daily, correspondence, characterised by the same dutiful tone on the part of the Empress and the same affectionate wisdom from Queen Victoria. Reference is made to more recent publications containing allusions to the Empress and in the majority of cases acknowledgment is made in the footnote.

FH Forshall was a Queen’s Scholar at Westminster School and in 1848 won a scholarship to Trinity College, Cambridge.Authors note: My primary aim in the following pages has been not so much to write a history of Westminster School, as to preserve some record of, those customs and usages of the School which, from the rapid changes in modern ideas of education, have in great part perished; and all of which, in the course of one or two more generations, will have probably become obsolete.
Contains many mentions about pupils and teachers.

English, RELIGIOUS TRACT SOCIETY London 1895
This book was originally published under the title "Road to the North Pole Second Series." In the first series, a sketch is given of the voyages of Captain Hall. No expedition was ever better equipped none ever started with higher hopes & anticipations, & few have fallen so far short of accomplishing the ends hoped for. …
The Jeannette left San Francisco for a voyage to the Far North in 1879. Captain De Long commanded this Arctic expedition, and his narrative is so vivid that we shall hope to give much of the story in his own words, his journals being full of adventure & remarkable experiences

Description by the author of the interesting places visited in connection with the scenes referred to in the history of the Bible. At the request of the Committee of Publication, this was combined together and thrown into the form of consecutive chapters, and so constitute, with considerable additional matter, the substance of the present volume. In preparing it, my hope has been that a book might thus be furnished that would be at once attractive to younger readers, and at the same time interesting and profitable to those of maturer years.

"Do you believe in Ghosts? Educated men, may be anticipated to answer, No. A majority, of educated Europeans, at any date within the last two hundred years, would probably have given a similar answer. But by the greater number of the human race at the present day, and by learned and unlearned, civilised and uncivilised alike, at any previous period in the world's history, an answer would have been returned in the affirmative. The belief in ghosts has been so widespread that it may almost be claimed as universal.

John Henry Cardinal Newman, C.O. (February 21, 1801 – August 11, 1890) was an Anglican convert to Roman Catholicism, later made a cardinal. Apologia is the most typical and important of the writings of its author. In the first place, it is, in some ways, his most characteristic work. It is instinct with his personality. It is the best exhibition in Newman's published writings of his curious absorption in the drama of his own life. Kingsley's attack on him gave him the opportunity for setting himself right alike with the larger public and with the smaller.

No name, since the days of King Alfred, has been so universally honoured as that of Queen Victoria. She has won the hearts of all her subjects, both at home and in the Colonies, and her name is mentioned with respect and admiration by all who speak the English tongue. It will now be our pleasure to trace out the story of her life, to mark the course of events in the history of her reign, and to describe the part taken by the Queen in the life and fortunes of the nation. We shall then be better able to appreciate her high character, to feel grateful to God for giving us such a ruler, and to profit by her good example.

Trilby is a gothic horror novel by George du Maurier and one of the most popular novels of its time, perhaps the second best selling novel of the Fin de siècle period after Bram Stoker's Dracula. Trilby is set in the 1850s in an idyllic bohemian Paris. Though it features the hijinks of three lovable English artists — especially the delicate genius Little Billee — its most memorable character is Svengali, a Jewish rogue, a masterful musician, and an irresistible hypnotist. Thomas Arnold (June 13, 1795 – June 12, 1842) was a British
schoolmaster and historian, head of Rugby School from 1828 to 1841. He
was made a fellow of Oriel, Oxford in 1815. His
appointment to the headship of Rugby, turned the school's fortunes around, and his
force of character and religious zeal enabled him to turn it into a
model followed by the other public schools, exercising an unprecedented
influence on the educational system of the country. He is portrayed as
a leading character in the novel, Tom Brown's Schooldays.

Embodied in a dialogue held in the garden of the Taj Mahal, at Agra. In this work, which is dedicated to the Earl of Dufferin, the Author, after minutely describing the beautiful Tomb and surrounding Gardens of the Taj Mahal, introduces a group composed of a learned Mirza, two singing-girls with their attendant, and an Englishman, who pass the night in the Mosque attached to the famous Monument, reading the Chapter of Sa'di upon " Love," and conversing upon that theme, with accompaniments of music and dancing.
Sections in this poem taken directly from the Persian are printed in italics, and present the 3rd chapter of the Bostan nearly as it stands in the text of Sa'di.
