Poems You Have Never Met
As I make my way through various on-line and brick-and-mortar book stores, I am increasingly convinced that Russian literature is woefully under-represented. One can always find War and Peace or Crime and Punishment, but to think that is all there is to it?! In all fairness, it would take a separate store chain or a huge server bank to accommodate all the works that would provide a reasonably comprehensive picture of Russian literature. However, I can’t help feeling disheartened when seeing, how much precious shelf space is dedicated to the mediocre romance novels and how little – to the works by Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov, Anton Chekhov, Ivan Turgenev and Fyodor Tyutchev, to say nothing of Nikolai Gogol, Sergei Yesenin, Anna Akhmatova, Marina Tsvetayeva, Igor Severyanin, Alexander Blok, Alexei Tolstoy (yes, there was more than one famous Tolstoy in Russian literature) and many others. There is an entire population of poems and stories you have in all likelihood never met.

Diamond is Fragile
"The novels about precious stones tell about the nature, structure and search of the gems, as well as their history. Some of them are dedicated to the Russian gems, specifically to the Ural and Ukrainian emeralds, topazes and decorative stones. The thrilling storylines of the novels are interwoven with folk legends, myths and fairy tales."
Rustem Valayev, author
"Diamond is Fragile was one of my favorite books from my late grandfather's library. Much to my surprise (and dismay) it was only published once in the former Soviet Union approximately 50 years ago and (to the best of my knowledge) has never been published abroad.
"I was inspired to translate Diamond is Fragile into English by Gerry's father - Thom Seymour, Sr. - due to his passion for geology and history (topics amply covered in the book). I hope that other English-speaking readers who are interested in these disciplines will enjoy it as well."

Water clock
Parisians do not believe that works of art ought to be confined to museums. Here is an unusual bit of modern mechanical art - a curious water clock displayed in one of the side passages off Champs Elysees. The clock shows time via a column of water that rises with each drop (dispensed every second), and then drains completely every twelve hours. The outlines of various tubes and vessels containing water are highlighted with thin neon tubes.

Flagler College - St. Augustine, Florida
Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida is actually the former grand Ponce de Leon Hotel - one of the first of its kind in the United States.
This stunning complex of buildings, towers and galleries was built in the lavish Spanish style, accented by exotic Florida greenery and became one of THE winter resorts for the rich and the famous - the glitterati of the late 19th - early 20th century.
A massive restorative effort allows us to see the former Hotel Ponce de Leon in its full grandeur, although in order to stay there, one must visit the Flagler College admissions office, rather than the check-in desk.
