Looking Backward From 2000 to 1887
A man falls asleep in 1887 and remains in an undisturbed and unaging state, Rip Van Winkle-like, for over 100 years. He awakens in the year 2000 to the Utopian ideal his native Boston has become. Bellamy's classic of Utopian literature paints a picture of a world where money is no longer used and people work because they enjoy what they do. There's progress, rather than stagnation in a forward direction. Despite initially sounding like a Socialistic ideal, Bellamy creates a world that is based on the concept of capitalism reaching its ultimate goal. This novel spawned and inspired political movements in Bellamy's time, and speaks volumes about what is possible for a society to accomplish.

EREWHON
EREWHON by Samuel Butler is a classic in dystopian literature. Written in the mid-19th century, EREWHON lays the groundwork for other dystopian classics to come such as Huxley's BRAVE NEW WORLD and Orwell's 1984. EREWHON manages a light-hearted tone while retaining biting social commentary as applicable today as in Butler's time. EREWHON is considered a classic, and rightly so.

  EREWHON REVISITED
EREWHON REVISITED continues Butler's classic story of the lost country of Erewhon. Erewhon is a land where technology has been abolished and Colleges of Unreason abound. In WALDEN TWO, B.F. Skinner proposes that Butler's Erewhon is a utopia. In fact, Erewhon appears to display some serious fallacies in its management. Butler seems more interested in writing a droll story and pointing out the errors of Victorian society than displaying Erewhon as a utopia. A backwards society, Erewhon points out the backwardness of society in general. An impressive follow-up to the original book, EREWHON REVISITED will delight and entertain!

VARNEY THE VAMPIRE; OR; THE FEAST OF BLOOD-VOLUME 1
Although often attributed to Thomas Preskett Prest, this classic vampire story is almost certainly the work of James Malcolm Rymer. Originally serialized in the Penny Dreadfuls, Varney pre-dates Dracula, and is considered the first vampire story written in English. (Volume 1 of 3.)

VARNEY THE VAMPIRE; OR; THE FEAST OF BLOOD-VOLUME 2

VARNEY THE VAMPIRE; OR; THE FEAST OF BLOOD-VOLUME 3
James Malcolm Rymer likely wrote Varney, though some give the credit to Thomas Preskett Prest. Different from the suave, Bela Lugosi portrayal of a vampire, Varney is an uncompromising villain bent on the slacking of his unholy thirst for blood. Varney appears as a rotting, rapacious corpse skulking through the night in search of that crimson liquid that gives him both succor and sustainance. Despite being a major progenitor of vampire fiction in the English-speaking world, Varney remains in Dracula's shadow of greater popularity. Somehow, one thinks Varney prefers the shadow to the limelight the Count apparently so enjoys. (Volume 3 of 3)
