Print: $27.95 Download: $6.50 The lyrics of songs by jazz pianist/songwriter Michael Guy to be followed up by a CD in 2009. THIS BOOK IS IN ALL COLOR, TEXT & PHOTOS. There are a few poems but most are finely crafted lyrics . These arrangements are in large type including photos on personal and nature themes. Some of Guy's "relationship lyrics" have a country song feel and beat structure; photos show his striking rich collage work in his CD covers published by JzCDz.com. Michael Guy (a.k.a. Michael L'ecluse) writes of his own personal history as well as songs in American History set as story-songs.
Could be your next coffee-table songbook (if you only knew his melodies!) You will when you buy his CDs published under JzCDz.com
He is the sole composer and pianist on the New Age, Jazz CD titled: AUGUST OCEAN OVERTURE now available on iTunes and Amazon.

Download: $0.49 Track one of August Ocean Overture. The opening piece is #1-5 of an Ocean Suite. This track segues into Track 2, the Seabreeze theme.
It came out of a fabulous live recording session on the night of July 20, 2007 but was all done in one take.
For weeks I'd been playing variations on this theme (written July 2006) and another dramatic darker Nature mood was forming on Low Strings, on the lowest B octave of the Digital Grand (B minor mode) I got mad that so many great takes of the Seabreeze melody had vanished into thin air, and it was time to get operational.
The darker intro. came up and I went with it, feeling the mystery of a vast Ocean at night. It rolled over into a Romatic, theme in A minor played in high octaves then crossing hands to do chords. Finally I arrived back on my sweet Seabreeze melody in G.
For the rest of the suite, you'll have to buy the CD (This suite gets hotter in tempo on track 3)

Download: $0.59 A single from CD is from Quartet and Trio compositions recorded between 1995 and 2000. His CD, August Ocean Overture is 2 Cds in one. The second half of the CD is called: "JAZZ dance IMAGE" and includes this backing quartet piece of sequenced drums, bass, and guitar accompaniment along with a live SAX solo played on a seperate track by his Midi keyboard (if the sax sample had been year 2007 samples, you'd be hard pressed to know it wasn't a live sax player).
Like his favorite Black American composer, DUKE ELLINGTON, he has put some time in orchestration, not to mention paid a few dues on the piano. His solo is nicely mid-voiced for that Ellingtonia "Big Band" effect.

Perpetuem MobilePerpetuem Mobile (multimedia download)
Download: $0.59 A very cool fusion hit! Says, Christopher Hulse, editor at JzCDz.com and one who's read Michael Guy's musical novel, "The Last Renaissance Man". This is the theme to that novel and appears on his website: www.theLastRenaissanceMan.net to launch later in December 2007. Due to time limits (74' most CDs, a ridiculous 70' here at Lulu) this was cut from his CD, "August Ocean Overture". It well deserves a push as a single. An infectious rhythm of bass and piano chords overlayed with a "Blues scale" theme done with guitar samples. Recorded in his then state of the art, Roland Studio "M" in 1996 by Michael Guy, it had fine samples for that time and even now. Heavy distorted Electric guitar takes the theme at the end of this 3' tune and you would be hard pressed to know it was off a Midi keyboard!
Imagine a roomful of dancing Baroque composers doing a boogied-down version of an Allemande--then see his novel, "The Last Renaissance Man."

Download: FREE The original piano solo, from the opening 2005 session for Michael Guy's CD: "August Ocean Overture" released Dec. 2007. This was the earlier takes on his Digital Grand, which unlike his "SeaBreeze in G" recorded July 2007, was less processed, a little dry. Yet he was in fine, Classical form. Has an improvised, almost "Moonlight Sonata" sound put into modern, jazz idiom. The left hand is serene--basic arpeggio figures over a Majestic, Oceanic melody. It builds intensity to end a piano solo by a master improvisor. Published JzCDz.com 2007

Download: $0.49 Track number 6 from Michael Guy's CD, "August Ocean Overture" The first piece recorded in one afternoon take of July 2005. A jazz blues, with a mid-voiced clav-sounding blues part boldly nuanced against very syncopated, atmospheric string parts. The bold, solid bass was played in his left hand. The strings wrapping around the traditional blues line give it a contemporary and atmospheric ambience. High bitrate mp3.

Download: $0.60 A gorgeous, zephyr of a piano solo with the ambience of a summer afternoon on a breezy, tropical beach from jazz pianist and composer Michael Guy. From his CD: "August Ocean Overture" - Excerpts from an extended opening piano, strings and choir suite: "Ocean Prelude" His Editor, Christopher Hulse, marveled at the PRISTINE sound of this Piano Solo!
This CD is set to debut here at Lulu and CD-BABY this December 2007. This gained positive feedback at his blog site on the Ning network "Creative Thinkers International" (CTI) in November. JzCDz.com will be releasing downloads of the tracks from this atmospheric, jazz Keyboard album.
Michael Guy has played solo piano for over 30 years, at least 20+ in a jazz style. Download: $0.70 COMPOSER: Michael Guy DOWNLOAD: 2 files @ 128Kbps, Digital 44.1 TIME:[2:25, 3:05] MUSIC: Intro.& Alto Flute solo/Opening: "Children of the Dawn Country"
I studied orchestration during the 90's while taking care of my elderly parents - I had time but no money - Along with the first Roland Digital workstation I managed to buy, I also bought sound-cards of decent orchestral samples for that era.
I wrote this orchestration out on paper and recorded parts into my sequencer. I'm happy with the sound and a more musical way of working than today's computers.
This music has a Native American-feeling using original tunes based on Indian songs I used to sing at the piano. I had a book by a Natalie (?) who in 1910 wrote the songs of the old Indian Chiefs.
The opening is the Eastern Tribes or Wabanaki; They called themselves "Children of the Dawn Country"

Download: $0.59 From my 2005 CD, "In Memory Only" to be released 2008 when an outlet is found and when August Ocean Overture is released first.
This is one of my most popular posts at my Blog at CTI and on AuthorsDen.com. A studio take I did going all the way back to 1997 or so I think.
Features: full quartet with drums, bass, synthesizers on chords and then the solo on piano. My best jazz solo I did during that period.
Unsual sound due to Augmented chords and short, biting accents that represent the "broken-heart" part! 192Kbps mp3. Track 3 from the CD "In Memory Only" No Preview but HEAR THIS TRACK IN FULL and others from MichaelGuy's 2 CDs @ http://www.thelastrenaissanceman.net/BUYmusic.html

Download: $0.59 Go to: www.theLastRenaissanceMan.net (the writing and music site for Michael Guy) and you can hear this track in full from the 1986 synthesizer recording: "Songs from the Golden Flute" CLICK on the "Golden Flute" button or link from the Home Page. This was one of my first recordings and features some pretty cool Analog synth work from Sequential Circuits, stuff that today many are buying samples again. Why? Because, analog synths could "burn" on solos and had a nice fat sound. My solo over this group is more rock with jazz overtones. This was recorded right at the end of my "rock period" after returning to Florida from New York City in the 1980s. I hope to release this CD intact soon as it is "Classic" early NewAge rock/jazz fusion of the 80's!

SeaBreeze in E minorSeaBreeze in E minor (multimedia download)
Download: $0.75 LuLu's CD burning process is suspect of error so my full CD is still in Draft in my projects den. I'm sure it isn't anything that's my fault. So I'm am releasing the main track of my CD, August Ocean Overture: the Seabreeze theme (see my Storefront here) taken into an uptempo almost country-jazz walk, after a mellow, walking bass and organ intro that has harmonics in the bass sample. After that the main piano part is two tracks not solo: original uptempo chords and bass done on the keyboard sequence, then the solo done in another pass all then recorded to a 2-track Mini Disc.
Enjoy this uptempo beat then download "Seabreeze in G" for the conclusion! 192Kbps mp3 from the CD I can't release here yet!

BIG-WAVE RiderBIG-WAVE Rider (multimedia download)
Download: $0.59 This is the last individual mp3 release from my CD, August Ocean Overture to be released here on New Year's Eve. A jazz piano solo that also includes other digital programs besides the Bosendorfer Grand piano sound; choirs, strings, organ, etc. But it was recorded in one take, playing live to 2-Tracks without overdubs. A special performance for me, because it was the last take I did in my home studio before moving from Daytona Beach, FL. I like the awesome streaks of power chords in A major Mixolydian mode and the refrain in D minor is very much like the chords to the Christmas carol, "O Holy Night" but built on a progression all composers play on sooner or later since Baroque times.
This is very much NEW AGE Piano but with a Jazz improv approach. 192Kbps but this is about 10' long. And yes, it's more about the power of bigWAVES than the Riders!

 |
Download: $0.49 An improvisation on the Theme to my new age piece: "BIG-WAVE Rider" on my CD, August Ocean Overture but will probably be cut to save time. I still like it a lot and was done immediately after cutting the Big Wave tune in my home studio in one take. I used a rotary setting and i like the sometimes staccato touch to the organ, which without a time-keeping part, keeps perfect rhythm. It's a summary of that big melody and harmony in my 10' piece, BIG WAVE RIDER. See.

Download: $0.49 A prelude for strings, choir, organ off Michael Guy's CD: August Ocean Overture. It is meant to be immediately followed by his New Age tune: Big Wave Rider a piece filled with the majesty of big waves. If you purchase this buy Big-WAVE Rider. Its more about the waves than the riders and it "ain't no Beach Boys!"
Opens with the mysterious call of "the Sirens" beckoning sailors to their doom! Time = 3:55 Enjoy this strange sound @ http://www.thelastrenaissanceman.net/Exerpts3c8.html

theDEEP AbysstheDEEP Abyss (multimedia download)
Download: $0.59 Releasing this Last Track from CD: "AUGUST OCEAN OVERTURE" - A funky, bass-heavy jazz groove you could even dance to, with bluesy rifts and a toe-tapping pop beat. VOCALS, Michael's deep rich baritone on a mellow hypnotic line. You can click on the PREVIEW button to hear a minute of song. When available at CD-BABY it may be shorter due to time limits.
The INCREDIBLE Foxy (Lady!) LYRICS have to do with the images on the cover: "...they move through a LOVE they must Renew And the HURRICANE, it spins above YOU, While deep within the Abyss, the predatory SHARK still swims..."
BASS is Heavy so computer speakers may distort unless you have a subwoofer -
DIGITAL KEYS/Guitar, Drums had a fine setup - Vocals had no compression, BUT, the second refrain of whole song is SUPPOSE to sound "underwater" (further from Mic.)

Orion Calling 2000Orion Calling 2000 (multimedia download)
Download: $0.59 March, year 2000 and Ensonique ruled! 3 week recording sessions went into late hours. I had bought the keyboard, not rented, but strangely after the 3 weeks sent it back with a broken disc drive - Mistake! Not for the piano sounds which were only fair, BUT the Electric guitar samples were AWESOME!
I wrote two MIDI based programs on Ensoniq samples called, "STARLITE Harmonics" & "DEEP SPACE Bouy" - You'll hear them in this all midi guitar Hymn set in a Yearning, burning Bb minor.
The story: I came down one night from my rooftop, after observing the constellation "Orion" with binoculars. Orion's Belt was SO beautiful that night - at 11pm that night I did this take.
There's never been a more "heavenly" other worldly moment since!

My CountryMy Country (multimedia download)
Download: $0.49 A 192Kbps mp3 of one of only two Vocal tracks on my JAZZ CD: "August Ocean Overture" being released this December 2007. Michael Guy on vocals though you can see by his Storefront postings he's a piano soloist (over 30 years), he did however sleep in a Holiday Inn last night (kidding, actually spent 10 years as a baritone in church choir so I can carry this tune!)
After the lyric it carries on with a classical piano solo BUT, the piano part to this song is pure Country/JAZZ in the spirit of "Keith Jarrett". A rolling, blues country line on a CLASSIC COUNTRY chord progression filled with fast piano runs.
If you're a country band looking to chart this, I have the composing/arranging skills to make this first part work - just don't want anyone else playing the piano on it (unless your Matt Rollins!) LYRICS: (my English ancestors coming to America in 1649!) Available in MY SONGBOOK: "Across the SEA of MADness"

Rebirth of the CoolRebirth of the Cool (multimedia download)
Download: $0.59 Another breezy JAZZ Blues from Michael Guy's CD, "August Ocean Overture" done with multi layered keyboards in a post Miles Davisian "cool" minor mode. An almost Pat Metheny like, mid-period sound, with a resonant and realistic Acoustic Guitar bit on the front end. Then strings, electic jazz piano sounds take over. Always a fine, moving bass in his left hand. Nice organ overlays at the major mode change of key. He said: "No drums at my session and it was too improvised; the guitar is my playing off a keyboard sample."
But, drums or not, it keeps a perfect rhythm and his solo based on a falling D minor pentatonic theme faultlessly builds in activity as this track builds to a nice upward flourish at the end.
High bitrate 256Kbps mp3, a bit loud.
