I grew up in Baltimore, graduated from the University of Maryland in 1972 and immigrated to Israel in 1975. For the last 20 or so years I have been working in the programming and later Internet fields. I presently live near Jerusalem and am happily married + 4. The post heart attack period put the 'happily' part in jeopardy, but thankfully we are now past that..........

On February 7, 2005, Mike Stone, author of "Surviving a Successful Heart Attack", was the guest speaker of the 'Journal Club' of Hadassah Hospital - Cardiology Department, Ein Kerem Jerusalem. Mr. Stone discussed the 2 main themes of his book:

  • The massive disruptions in his professional and personal life resulting from the Statin medications he was prescribed following his heart attack.

  • His reasons for his own discontinuation of the Statins, based upon published research works and publications of Dr. Beatrice Golomb, Dr. Kilmer McCully, Dr. Uffe Ravnskov, Dr. Mary Enig, Ms. Sally Fallon president of the Weston A. Price Foundation, and others.

Mr. Stone ended his presentation with a personal plea to cardiologists to be more receptive to those patients complaining about negative side effects of Statins. In addition, he urged doctors and researchers to keep an open mind above and beyond the standard reasons still being given as the major cause of heart disease - high LDL Cholesterol levels.

A short discussion regarding Statin side effects followed.
