Here it is, the 2010 calendar of the crab boats which deliver to Dutch Harbor. I chose these images as a way to showcase the fishing boats, some of which are quite beautiful. I also wanted to show the weather conditions which affect their operation, hence the images of freezing spray, and the beauty of the water on which they work.

I have put together a collection of images of the Fishing Company of Alaska's fleet of boats: the Alaska Warrior, the Alaska Spirit, the Alaska Victory, the Alaska Juris, the Alaska Patriot and the Alaska Pioneer. The images were selected for their backgrounds of the area around Dutch Harbor, as well as the weather conditions. Fishing isn't just about the boats, it's about where they deliver and what the environment is like in a fishing community.

This year I decided to focus more on the "Hollywood" boats everyone has seen on TV and there are images of the four favorites, the Maverick, the Cornelia Marie, the Time Bandit, and the Northwestern, as well as pictures of other boats which have appeared on the TV series about crab fishing in Alaska.

Early in 2007 some of the crew members of the Alaska Ranger, a factory trawler which operates out of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, asked me to create a scrapbook of photos as a keepsake of their experiences while working on that boat. For the rest of the year I became the unofficially sanctioned papparazzi of the boat and crew, putting together a collection of images to document the year of 2007. Hopefully I have captured the essence of life out here and created a glimpse into the lives of the fishermen who work out of this port.
