Listen to 1-hour INTERVIEW with Robert R. Chandler on Artist First World Radio: http://66.49.193.35/Tony_Kay_Show_2008-06-18_Robert_Chandler.mp3 Minus the Imple is a fictionalized true story about one man's quest to find the answers to the phenomena that punctuate his experiences throughout his life. It's a story about love and loss, faith and humanity. The story is largely autobiographical. The main character, Robert Chandler, starts life on a small farm in Zeleienople, Pennsylvania. His early childhood is beset with profound loss, and he finds himself having to grow up fast. His path takes him from the farm to a Jesuit high school where he is an outcast at first. As he grows and matures, he find that people are drawn to him for various reasons, and everyone seems to want something different from him. When strange, unexplainable episodes give him reason for concern, he starts to question his own health and sanity. Friends and lovers help him examine the growing questions with which he wrestles, and in time, he comes to terms with his fate. Adulthood brings new challenges and a visit to "rock bottom", during which time he considers scrapping everything to escape life's harshness. The great love of his life presents itself, only to open up more questions and more episodes he can't explain. The human soul is a very fascinating aspect of the human experience. Most of us believe our soul is very real and many of us believe it is immortal. Why? Why is it we rush to accept those notions, while many of us don't even accept the realities staring us right in our faces? This is a true story (with only minor embellishments) of one simple man's journey through a life ripe with riddles and often no definitive answers. But, he pushes on and finds the strength to persevere, despite isolation and lack of support. It is an inspirational true story, at its heart. And heart is what survival is usually all about. Do you believe in yourself enough to be willing to fight for your own survival. Often, the decision to continue is the hardest one to make. It's simple really... or is it? Written in an accessible style reminiscent of J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, this is a story about love and loss, faith and redemption, and the search for one’s own identity. Minus the Imple explores the widely-accepted notion of the human soul as one of life’s universal mysteries for which many seek answers. "I’ve labeled it a ‘fictionalized true story’ because I want to be accurate in depicting the book’s two best features," Chandler explains. The story is largely a memoir, according to the 50-something author, but names and actual venues have been changed and some elements of fantasy have been added for entertainment value. “The names of the characters have been changed, but all are based upon people who have greatly influenced me over the course of my life,” he adds. This novel (268 pages; ISBN# 978-0-6151-9772-2; Lulu.com ID #2035657), inspired by a random incident that occurred in 2002, has been a work-in-progress since 2004 and is now ready to be shared with the world. Minus the Imple is a fictionalized true story about one man's quest to find the answers to the phenomena that punctuate his experiences throughout his life. It's a story about love and loss, faith and humanity. Does the human soul really exist, or is it merely a reassuring notion most people fully accept as real? Why do we believe in some things we have never seen, and yet we refuse to accept other notions that can't be ruled impossible? Faith is a curious thing. We will believe what we will. Minus the Imple will make you think as you review unexplainable episodes from your own past. All you have to do is be willing to open your mind and believe in something you can't see. It's simple, really...
