Store Description
Hi everybody, if you don't know me, name's Vern. Click on my web sight link to get an idea of the type of individual you're dealing with here. I am the proud author of SEAGALOGY, which will hopefully soon be used as a textbook in all film schools. SEAGALOGY is my masterwork that will change film criticism forever, make the world a better place to live, etc., but after you've read that a thousand times and have it committed to memory you might also check out my review collection 5 ON THE OUTSIDE. If you love movies and like to read about them, but only in reviews that are funny, insightful, and good, but with poor spelling and grammar, then you will enjoy the crap out of that book. If you only like crap though, you will not like either of my books. I do not recommend my books to people who are idiots or jerks. Sorry, jerks.

SEAGALOGY is on vacation

Vern in outlawvern's Blog
Tuesday 08 of January, 2008
Thanks everybody for buying the book and for all the kinds words. If you missed it, don't worry it will be available again in a new edition later this year. But the people who got the Lulu version will be able to brag about it for generations. Little know fact: all movie theaters let you in free if you show them your Lulu copy of Seagalogy. Refreshments are 50% off.

I would like to apologize for the part in the EXECUTIVE DECISION chapter where for some reason I said that John Leguizamo had played "Boy in Alley" in MARKED FOR DEATH (when of course that was in OUT FOR JUSTICE). If you noticed any other big embarrassing screwups like that let me know, I'll try to fix them in the next edition.

Anyway thanks again and I hope to have some new books here on Lulu before too long.

(Oh jesus, I gotta get working.)

SEAGALOGY to go into hibernation soon

Vern in outlawvern's Blog
Monday 10 of December, 2007
Well, it looks like I have an opportunity to get SEAGALOGY into more homes by people who actually know what they're doing. The downside is that when I sign on I have to retire my beloved Lulu edition of the book. So if you were planning on getting one I'm afraid this is your last chance.

The new one might be a little cheaper, it is planned to be updated with a new chapter, it will be available in stores some time next year. But think of this as the Dr.-Dre-selling-NWA-tapes-out-of-the-trunk-of-his-car version. You were here on the ground floor. When SEAGALOGY is a textbook in every film school in the world this super rare edition will be worth hundreds of thousands of space credits.

This is no slight on Lulu, either. I still plan to use it for my next books and I am even a little hesitant to take SEAGALOGY off of Lulu. But I think it will be worth it because of the larger amount of people the book will be able to reach. Anyway thanks everybody for buying the book, I appreciate it. And please continue to email me to let me know what you think.

Seagalogy okayed by New York

Vern in outlawvern's Blog
Wednesday 21 of November, 2007
New York Magazine's "Vulture" blog did a post on SEAGALOGY. I didn't send them a press release or anything, I think they must've read my LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD review on Ain't It Cool and followed the link from there. Anyway, sounds like they haven't read the book yet but at least they have the right idea by wanting to read it. After they get it for Christmas.

Santa Claus, if you're reading this, just stock up on the fuckin thing. You know it's what the people want.

If you don't hear from me for a while, assume I've been thrown out a window

Vern in outlawvern's Blog
Monday 12 of November, 2007
A guy named Baron Y. wrote to inform me that he brought two copies of SEAGALOGY to a Steven Seagal Blues Band show. When all was said and done his copy was signed by the man himself, and his brother's copy was in the possession of Seagal.

So hopefully Mr. Seagal won't take too much offense at some of the dumb jokes I put in there and will see that it is a sincere appreciation of his work. I should probaly buy some wrist braces just to be safe. If you are going to see his blues band please tell him I'm sincerely sorry if anything in there offends him. And then have him sign my apology if possible and you can keep it if you want.

Also I'd like to mention that I am beginning what I'm gonna call THE SEAGALOGY WEB TOUR. Basically, anybody that wants to do an email interview with me about Seagalogy or movies in general, I will do it. It could be anybody, I don't care if it's for oprah.com or some kid's My Space Teen Friendship Page. Just contact me at outlawvern at hotmail dot com, we'll discuss Seagal, the films of Badass Cinema, the state of film criticism on the web, etc.

The first stop on the SEAGALOGY WEB TOUR is wolfiedarling.com - I'm not sure how to do links on this thing yet so cut and paste this:

http://www.wolfiedarling.com/seagal.htm

Wolfgang writes about FIRE DOWN BELOW a little too sarcastic for my tastes but he has some nice things to say about the book and some serious questions about action cinema's past, present and future.

thanks everybody

First review of Seagalogy

Vern in outlawvern's Blog
Tuesday 30 of October, 2007
I think this is the first review of SEAGALOGY. Not too shabby.

Thank you everyone for the nice emails, blog posts etc. By my standards this has sold very well so far and I thank you all.

Also I would like to apologize for any typos I missed in there. I mean I'm usually worse but I really was trying to make this one more professional. I'm gonna try to clean those up in a revision, but you guys have the first edition which will be priceless once SEAGALOGY is a textbook in every school and a foundation of modern American society. (Give it five years.)

There is one embarrassing factual error pointed out to me by a reader named Steven Clark. In OUT OF REACH, the guys in the US Postal Service van are clearly the guys attacking Seagal at his home in the US. However this scene is intercut with a scene going on in Europe, so I got confused and claimed in the book that they were driving a USPS van overseas. Who am I, Roger Ebert? My sincere apologies for this hogwash. I'll fix that before it brainwashes the generation who will be reading this in schools. Feel free to email me about any other screwups you notice.

Ladies and gentlemen, SEAGALOGY

Vern in outlawvern's Blog
Friday 19 of October, 2007
What does it take to change the essence of a man?

Well, it takes time. But a copy of SEAGALOGY wouldn't hurt.

I've been talking about this for more than five years, now maybe I'll finally shut up. I have finished my landmark study of the films of Steven Seagal. At least until he makes another ten or twenty movies and I decide to do a second edition.

I'm very proud of my work and I hope you will enjoy it. Please let me know what you think after you've read it.

I would like to thank everyone who has helped me or encouraged me on this project and everybody who's been waiting for it.

Also, please note that Seagal has a new one called URBAN JUSTICE that comes out November 13th. It's his best in several years and yes, it has a chapter in the book.

thanks,

Vern

Shhhhh... I think I hear SEAGALOGY

Vern in outlawvern's Blog
Tuesday 22 of May, 2007
First of all, thanks for reading my "blog," which I believe is short for "book logistics" or something, I'm not sure. Anyway, I wanted to let whoever is reading this know that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, the metaphorical tunnel that represents writing this book about the films of Steven Seagal. After all these years of obsessive study and analysis I am down to clearing up a handful of loose ends, which I have been hacking through like a dude with a machete strolling through fields of sugar cane. I am real close to having it all written. I can smell it. It smells like superior attitude, superior state of mind.

I don't want to get your hopes up too high though, because there's still some other business to clear up before it enters your lives. My guy is almost done with the front cover but I doubt he even knows what the fuck is going on with the back cover. Let alone the spine. Also, I gotta figure out what to do about an introduction. I have one person in mind who I have to make a proposal to, then after he turns it down I will have to panic and start offering money to whoever walks past my apartment at night. Then the technical shit like making a table of contents, getting the page numbering straight, remembering how the fuck I did that PDF thing the first time, etc.

So I'm not saying it's coming out tomorrow or nothing, but it's over the horizon, and I'm running full speed at it and I'm gonna try to tackle it and once I get it on the ground I'm just gonna punch its fuckin teeth out, and then those teeth will trinkle onto the internet where each one will grow into a wonderful book that will be sent out to your homes to cause delight and revolutionize the worlds of film criticism and publishing.

Oprah if you are reading this quit hassling me lady, I already told you I am not interested in having SEAGALOGY in your book club. It's just not my kind of thing Oprah, leave me alone.

Anyway thanks everybody for your interest and patience, I hope you will find it's worth it. If not, sue me. However, I feel that those would be weak grounds for a lawsuit, in my opinion. But I'm not expert. Except on Steven Seagal.

thanks,

Vern

Update

Vern in outlawvern's Blog
Friday 09 of March, 2007
Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I meant to do it in the last year and a half but I forgot. Thanks for visiting my book page, which still only has this one book on it, but that is due to quality control and standards. I am still "hard" at "work" on my next work, SEAGALOGY, which in my opinion will be the GODFATHER of books. When I say it is the GODFATHER of books I am comparing it to the movie THE GODFATHER, not the book of the same title by Mario Puzo, because that wouldn't make sense. Anyway it will be the most in-depth analysis of Steven Seagal's filmography that will come out this year. You won't be disappointed unless you don't read it.

There is still some fine-tuning and re-evaluation required to chisel this fucker into a form so beautiful it will make men cry and women offer their shoulders for the men to cry on. Luckily I come from the generation before there was so much hormones in the meat, so my elbow glands still produce grease.

I promise that SEAGALOGY will be finished this year, and after that a variety of other books that don't take 5-7 years will follow.

thanks everybody
