Composer Philippe Bodin has received grants, prizes, awards, and residencies from the Lutoslawski International Competition (Poland), the Homage to Mozart Competition (Russia), the Mario Bernardo Angelo Comneno Competition (Italy), the American Music Center, the American Composers Forum, the Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada), Yaddo, the MacDowell Colony, and the Atlantic Center for the Arts, among others.
His work, commissioned by the Da Capo Chamber Players, the Orkest de Volharding (Netherlands), TM+ (France), the Eroica, Mannes, Mojave and Kungsbacka (Sweden) trios, the Chamber Music Partnership, Electra (Netherlands), the Utah Arts Festival and the Barlow Endowment, has also been performed by Xtet, Brave New Works, the New Zealand trio, the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, the St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble, the Las Vegas Music Festival Orchestra and the American Composers Orchestra.
A Doctor in Musical Arts from Yale University where he studied with Martin Bresnick, Jacob Druckman, Ezra Laderman, and Nicholas Maw, Philippe has taught composition at Illinois Wesleyan and Lawrence universities. Prior to his incarcation as a composer, he studied mathematics, piano, organ, and architecture, and had a career as an operatic baritone under the batons of Myung-Whun Chung, Philippe Herreweghe and Marc Minkovski. Born in Calais, France, he now lives in Brooklyn, NY.
