The Life and Times of Abraham Lincoln—President Lincoln's cousin | ||||||
|
When I was born farms were plowed and grain was threshed using steam engines. I was born in the village of Gordon, Ohio on October 25, 1934 and nobody had a telephone or indoor plumbing. Horses pulled wagons and buggies and farmers kept and milked cows. I think everyone had a chicken house or coupe and raised chickens for eggs and meat. A lot of people traded eggs for milk or butter or a small chunk of cheese or baloney at the grocery store. Lots of people made lye soap using wood ashes and old grease. Nobody locked their homes and nobody could remember anybody getting arrested for anything. Those were the days. And look at what we have nowadays. I married Patricia Ann Custer on July 12, 1955 and we are still married these 52 years later—we have five children. My life's journey has taken me from a one-room schoolhouse in Gordon, Ohio to a 13-week television series that I wrote and hosted. I still write weekly newspaper columns and take photos for them and magazine stories. I also build websites.
