Stewart Dunaway

Here are my collections of books written for different areas of interest. 1)History 2)Genealogy 3)Stock Market 4)Hobby - Astronomy Many of these items were written years ago and I finally took the time to update and get them in order to be published. My astronomy books are written for the beginner, someone interested in this hobby, especially from a photographer's view. This can be expensive and my books document this hobby, as a beginner, for the beginner. Most books I read on this hobby leave out many of the simple (assumed) details that I document, since I couldn't find it in any ONE book I read. My history books are a combination of American and Floridana. As 5th generation Orlando resident (although no longer) our family was deeply involved in the growth of this area. This got me interested in genealogy and thus more books. The stock market is where I work, and as an individual investor I have written a beginners guide to trading stocks, updated from all my experiences. Common sense is the key to this book, NOT how to get rich quick. Genealogy books cover our family history, and you cant discuss one family without branching out to all the relatives, and the Dunaway's of Central Florida covers MANY Central Florida's early residents. The Carter's of Maryland cover the founders of Resinol Soap, as well as my wife's side of the family tree. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT MY BOOKS JUST EMAIL ME. - STEWART

Thomas Burke
Thomas Burke, a poet, a medical doctor, a lawyer, North Carolina’s third governor, has a most interesting life. This book provides complete details on his life with many of his letters being quoted, as opposed to paraphrased opinions about him; you can read it for yourself. Further, his letter to Gen. George Washington shows his deep thinking and great common sense. His activities in the Continental Congress are amazing, and his views of civil rights were way ahead of his time.

Orange County, NC - Road Records - Vol. 1 1786-1820
This book is a compilation of the Road records of Orange County, NC. Volume 1 covers the images from 1786 to 1820. This is a combination of road petitions and overseer records. The petitions are cataloged the overseer records are not. All of the records include a IMAGE of the actual record. This is volume 1 of 3 volumes. The petitions will have a short transcription of the road details, and includes an index. Some of the records that were in bad shape, not readable or dont provide road historical information remain in the files of the archives (NC) so this book does NOT cover every single slip of paper in their collection.
Print: $20.00

Orange County, NC - Road Records - Vol 2
This is the second volume of the 3 volume set of road records for Orange County, NC. This book includes images of each record, as well as brief transcriptions, and some period maps, and a few modern maps showing locations of these old roadways. The intent of this series is to assit researchers in locating roadways, not a genealogical book, yet, signatures are visible, just not transcribed. There is an extensive index and each record is titled.

This book includes an image of the record, a short and specific transcription of the content to assit historians in location of early road ways. This book includes an extensive index to assist research and each document is titled. This book includes some maps drawn by the petitioners as well as some of the more famous maps of the time, focusing on these old roadways. NOTE: This volume includes the records about the hanging of Cyrus Guy, in 1869, as these rare court records were improperly stored in the Road Records.   Orange County, NC - Bridge Records - 1787 - 1865
Bridge records are petitions from the public requesting a bridge to be errected across a river/stream/creek typically where fords used to be, or at locations nearby these earlier crossings. Sometimes, although rare, they would develop a new road, but it would require a bridge across a stream. Never the less, this book, like the many volumes of road records, has an image of the petition along with a short transcript of the informaiton. Some maps show these bridges and as I could locate them in modern times I added those maps as well. A great research tool for road locations, migration paths and some interesting construction information (minimal) costs etc.

Guilford County, NC Road and Bridge Records - Vol 1
This is the first in a series of books documenting road and bridge petitions for Guilford County, N.C. This book is written more for the researcher than as a historical book to read. The location of roads and bridges is critical in establishing locations of events, places or people, since they didnt live, eat, shop, go to the mill etc., without traveling some road. These court records reside in the Archives of N.C. at Raleigh. This is NOT an exhaustive content, in that, there were records that have signatures and text not explaining locations as well as numerous overseer records that I did NOT include. This book has the image of the record and a short transcript pertaining to the location. This is indexed and there is a table of content so that each record (title given) can be easily found. There are some period maps showing locations, and a few modern views as well.
Print: $20.00

Guilford County, NC Road and Bridge Records Vol 2
Here is the second of three volumes for Guilford County, NC. The road and bridge records are combined for this county, and each record in this book is a photo image, coupled with a concise transcription of the petition. This book was written to assist researchers locate old road and bridges. This book does not represent every single slip of paper in the NC Archives, since some are just a name, others deal with overseer assignment. Therefore this is not an exhaustive copy of every slip of paper in the archives across three boxes - un-indexed!
Print: $20.00

Guilford County, NC Road and Bridge Records Vol 3
This is the last of the three volumes of Guilford County road and bridge records. This volume, like the others, includes images of the record, a transcript of its content. Some records have maps from period times and a few with modern maps showing these old locations. I found that the Guilford County records have some interesting historical information about the times, areas etc. This volume includes the time-frame when the NC Railroad was being built and the impact to the roads were two fold. First you have people wanting to change the routes due to the railroad and then people wanted a road from their village to the DEPOT! Some mention business as the reason. Never the less, these records expose more than just complaints.

The Fulkersons in the Battle of King's Mountain - Revolutionary War Story
This book provides an overview of early American history, followed by the Revolutionary War. This book was written from the research I compiled from my Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) application, being related to an American soldier that fought in the famous Battle at King's Mountain. This book covers details of King’s Mountain including old pictures and current pictures which helps properly document this battle. I also cover Hillsborough, NC history and key revolutionary citizens including their homes. There are many pictures in this book almost 1-2 per page. Even if you don’t care about the Fulkerson family, this book covers enough historical information that I believe it has educational value for all ages and interest in early American history.
