In a personal search for deeper meaning, I've spent the last four decades gleaning spiritual wisdom from the writings of spirtual visionaries like: monk-author Thomas Merton, priest-scientist Teilhard de Chardin, rabbi-author Abraham Heschel, scholar-author C. S. Lewis and active-contemplative like Dorothy Day and Catherine Dougherty. My searching has also been enriched by the wisdom of other traditions, from visionaries like: Sufi poet Rumi, Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh, and the Dalai Lama.

Over the years, as I read and reread their words, nuggets of wisdom seemed to jump off the page to get my attention. As a writer and photo-illustrator, I've made it my business to combine images and words to visualize my interpretations of these nuggets of wisdom. For the last ten years I've shared the resulting photo-meditations on my website, seescapes.com. Now, that I've retired from my career as a multi-media producer for Eastman Kodak, I'm devoting my prime creative energies to crafting a series of books which help us visualize the spiritual dimension of our lives.

World Alive with Loving God

World Alive with Loving GodWorld Alive with Loving God (book)

Print: $21.95

This work shares the lifelong vision of Teilhard de Chardin — priest, scientist, and mystic. In his introduction to The Divine Milieu, Teilhard describes himself as a man who seeks to show us “how to see God everywhere, to see him in all that is most hidden, most solid, and most ultimate in the world.” The images in this book, merged with paraphrases from Teilhard’s writings, are designed to help us “to see God everywhere.”

We live soul-deep in an infinite and eternal reality, most of which usually evades us. This book visually and verbally explores the spiritual senses of: Awe, Destiny, Honesty, Balance, Connection, Mission and Presence. To give voice to these spiritual senses we use Haiku, short Japanese poetry which invites us to enter a new way of sensing. The Japanese art of haiga traditionally combines an image with the haiku poem. Each adds layers of meaning to the other. Poetry and image invite us to explore the powerful abilities latent in our spiritual senses.

It's a Graceful Life

It's a Graceful LifeIt's a Graceful Life (book)

Print: $20.95

Each of our lives is full of grace — even when it doesn’t seem to be. We and our world, are always in the gift of God’s loving Presence, believes theologian Karl Rahner. God fills our world with gifts of grace, and invites us to accept them. We live our awareness of those graced encounters, by sharing the gift of ourselves with others. The text accompanying the images in this book are my interpretations of Karl Rahner’s insights expressed in haiku, a form of Japanese contemplative poetry. The images have been created to help us visualize the everyday nearness of our God. Color Edition

PSALMscapes

Print: $11.95

The Psalms come to us from a very earthy people, who had a very down-to earth relationship with their God. The spiritual realities of the Psalms are reflected in the human reality of our faces, as well as the physical reality of our world. Every face and every place is an outer reflection of the deep stirring of Spirit. When we dare to be “honest to God” in prayer, we allow our faces, along with our words, to reflect our praising, as well as our pleading. The photo-meditations in this book merge the expressive power of human faces and earthy places. Phrases form the Psalms are paraphrased in haiku, a form of Japanese contemplative poetry.

Wise Eyes

Conventional wisdom holds that "Seeing is believing." But spiritual wisdom says that "Believing is seeing." The photo-meditations in this book are invitations to share the wisdom of this deeper way of seeing.

Stay Tuned

Stay TunedStay Tuned (book)

Print: $9.95

In this book I present electronic tuning as the symbol for our search for deeper meaning. The science behind radio and television tuning, I believe, has a lot to say, not only about how we stay in touch with our world, but also about how we achieve resonant relationships with our deepest selves, with our loved ones and with our God.
