Why this bookshop?
Septentrionalia offers pdf downloads of out-of-copyright scholarly works at no charge at all. Some, however, may want to read these works in physical form, but most of them have long gone out of print. This bookshop is the solution to this demand.
Why charge?Septentrionalia is a not-for-profit initiative to make important and rare works available to the scholarly public. Its establishment and maintenance, however, have cost us a fair amount of our own money in hardware and webhosting costs. On top of the production costs of these volumes, which make up the greater part by far of the purchase price, we ask for a small contribution of $4 per volume, included in the price. If you are unwilling to pay this fee, you are welcome to download our pdfs for free from our library and format them for publication yourself. These works are, after all, in the public domain, and are thus as much yours as they are ours! QualityOur books are photocopies of existing editions. Depending on the material and hardware available at the time of the scan, some texts are of inferior quality and few or none are equal in quality to the original editions. Make sure to look up our pdf files at septentrionalia before purchasing hardcopies of these files, in order to ensure that the quality of the file suffices for your purposes. Books, once purchased, cannot be returned. Why sell inferior quality?Since most of the works we sell have long gone out of print, many scholars are happy to find a copy in any condition. Not only are our books newly printed so that they are in better physical shape than second-hand copies, they also cost only a fraction of the second-hand value of these rare works from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
