The GOLDen Mathematics series of e-books is a culmination of over two decades of hands-on college teaching experience. They are written in a comfortable style by a tenured
college Professor (with M.S. in mathematics) who is also a home-educating Mum.
Coverage includes elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, and college
algebra. Each course is intended for:
- online math students wanting to supplement their course
- independent learners wanting to learn or review algebra
- home-educated students (and their parents!)
GM was originally written as webpage lessons to supplement some of my online
math classes, but with home-educated students and their parents in
mind too. I hope they provide a significant source of material for yourself or
your homeschool.
Features:
My goal is to facilitate learning through guided discovery in a challenging
meaningful atmosphere utilizing symbolic, numeric, and graphical methods of
problem solving. GM is written in a more conversational style than a typical
textbook - as if you were reading a one-on-one class lecture. GM is not as fancy
as a regular textbook, but students report that it is more readable
than a typical text. Each GM book includes:
- descriptive lessons with highlighted theorems, rules, processes, and
cautions
- extensive examples with graphics
- quick self-tests with answers
- thinking questions appropriate for discussion in an online forum, a
collaborative learning activity, or dinnertime conversation
- links to additional resources on the internet (list regularly updated by
the author)
- access to author's online TI calculator guide
Note: GM contains no exercise sets, so you will need a source of practice problems (several sites on the internet offer worksheets and/or interactive problem sets either free or for a reasonable fee).
Content Overview:
The GOLDen Mathematics series includes three main books (GM
Elementary Algebra, GM Intermediate Algebra, and
GM College Algebra) each available as a downloadable
e-book. The first two are also available in full color spiral bound printed books.
In addition, each chapter of each book is available as a downloadable e-book for
a nominal fee (a great way to review one particular topic only!).
GM Complete Algebra provides downloads by topic combining
material from the GM College Algebra book along with topic-based review material
from the GM Elementary/Intermediate Algebra books. These downloads are
a great way to learn college algebra while reviewing pre-college level algebra.
