Bisti Badlands, New Mexico 2009 Calendar

Bisti Badlands, New Mexico 2009 CalendarBisti Badlands, New Mexico 2009 Calendar (calendar)

Print: $32.58

The Bisti Wilderness Area is located near Farmington, New Mexico. Bisti (pronounced Bistie) exhibits the geological Fruitland formation and Kirtland Shale. This area of northwest New Mexico was a coastal swamp with forests and meadows further in. As the inland seas came north and the river flood plains advanced, the animal life was buried in the sediment. Petrified wood and other fossils can be seen scattered around the desert floor. Embedded sandstone, coal, shale and mudstone slowly erode away as capped rock of shale protect it and result in hoodoo formations. Water and wind are important factors that shaped these badlands for the curious hiker to explore strange spires and interesting rock formations. More artwork available at my Lulu storefront
