From The Editor: Someone once said we should learn something new every day. Whether it’s information about someone or something, a new song or a new game, or maybe a new word…learning new things exercises our brains. Just as healthy eating and exercise keep our bodies strong, knowledge keeps our minds strong. The more we learn, the stronger it gets. That is why I look forward to checking my Inbox every day. I can’t wait to see what new and interesting thing I will learn. Will it be an article about a weird bug? Strange plant? Special holiday? Interesting people? What interests you? Do you have an unusual pet? Have you visited some wonderful place on a holiday? Are you an expert at a certain craft? Maybe there’s a game you play that our readers might not know. Hmmm. I better check my Inbox. Maybe I’ll see your name in there!

eBook: $3.99

From The Editor: When I was six, my Dad took me to his office. I was fascinated watching all the teletype machines whirring away, typing out mysterious messages from all around the world. That was the first time I realized there was a world "out there" other than my own. My second realization came when my grandfather became a world traveler and sent me letters and a sample of the money from each country he visited. Once we understand the cultures of people across Planet Earth, we will see how people are different from us and also how people are the same as us. With knowledge, there is understanding. I hope you learn something new from our September issue about the world around you and the lovely people that are your fellow earth citizens. Happy September, Happy Fall, Happy Back to School!

Stories for Children Magazine August 2009

Stories for Children Magazine August 2009Stories for Children Magazine August 2009 (e-book)

eBook: $3.99

From The Editor: Do you ever wonder where all the “stories” in Stories for Children Magazine come from? They start as ideas. We all have them, but some people have a special gift for turning ideas into stories other people love to read. We all have interesting experiences each day. People who write about these experiences hoping to publish them (authors) send their stories to people like me (editors). If an editor likes an author’s story enough, the two work together: changing a word here and there to add description or to make things clearer to the reader. When the story is as good as it can be, more editors make decisions like where to place the story in the magazine and what kind of art to use with it. Did you know that some of our stories are not just “for” children, they’re “by” children? Maybe you have an unusual hobby or an amazing pet. Perhaps you have a story about overcoming a challenge at school you’d like to share with other kids.

eBook: $3.99

From The Editor: Summer is here and with it the joy of adventure. One of my best memories of summer as a kid is going on campouts with my family. My dad loved to find remote places off the road to park our truck and campout. I remember on one such outing it was pitch black out as we drove to the burning desert for yet another campout in nowhere land. Suddenly the car swerved and my dad hit the brakes. I could feel the fear crawling up my skin to the hairs at the back of my neck. “Did you see that, Virginia?” my dad asked. I had no idea what he was talking about. With wide eyes I looked around. “No,” I responded. Not wanting to hear what my dad was going to tell me next. Unfortunately that didn’t stop my dad from telling me why he swerved the car. With a look of panic in his eyes he started the car moving again. Turning to me he said, “Keep your eyes open. We almost hit a werewolf!” My dad loved to play jokes on me, but I wasn’t sure if he was joking this time. Maybe I’ll never know . . .

From The Editor: Everyone has a favorite month of the year. Mine has always been June. Living in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada . . . June is often the first month when we know the nice weather is here to stay. The snow has melted from the mountain tops and the rivers are filled to the brim; the trees are leafing out, and the birds are in full song.

From The Editor: If it were November, I could say how grateful I am for all of our readers and contributors. If it were December, I could thank all of our contributors for their talented gifts. If it were January, I could tell you my resolutions for SFC and the New Year. If it were February, I could tell you how much I love all of you for making SFC so wonderful. If it were March, I could look for a leprechaun and a pot of gold to share with you. If it were April, I could tell you how exciting it is to be starting the second year of SFC. But, now it’s May—hooray! It’s time for all of us to celebrate our mothers and the beauty of nature. In this issue, you will learn all about May Day, its traditions, and the May Pole. We’ll celebrate Mother’s Day. We’ll learn how to make a card and a gift for Mom. You can even read some of our stories and articles to Mom, solve a puzzle, or do the coloring page together.

Stories for Children Magazine April 2009Stories for Children Magazine April 2009 (e-book)

eBook: $3.99

From The Editor: Family is so important. Sometimes we have to put our own needs aside for family. I know when I was little I had to get used to moving and making new friends because my dad was an airline pilot. Moving was hard and making friends even harder, but I learned my family needed to move so my dad could take care of us. What things do you have to give up for your family? What things do your parents give up for you? Remember that friends come and go, but family will always be there. That is why the April issue is very exciting to me. It is the start of our second year here at Stories for Children Magazine and we plan on doing a few new things to shake it up. One change will be each month you’ll get to hear from one of the SFC editors in “From The Editor.” That’s right, you’ll get to know the other SFC Team members. We also hope we have become like your family now, and you are glad to see us each month. We take great pride in always being here for you, just like your real family.

From The Editor: Spring is about starting over again and our March issue is packed with lots of fun things to do and read about. Some of our topics include gardening, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, the Ides of March, friendship, learning from our mistakes, and so much more. Spring has so much to offer and finding the right topics wasn’t very hard. I just had to think about the flowers starting to bloom and the bees buzzing around making sweet honey. Yummy! Even the animals get in on all the action. Soon you’ll see baby birds, rabbits, butterflies, and even ladybugs welcoming in the warmer weather. Yes, Spring is an exciting time for everyone.

eBook: $3.99

From The Editor: I can’t believe that February is the last month of winter. I haven’t had any snow this year around my house. I guess I’ll just have to wait until next year. With Winter ending and Spring right around the corner, it’s also time to start cleaning out the old stuff we don’t use in our house. My kids love to “spring clean” because they make room, as they like to tell me, for all the new presents they’ll be getting for their birthdays. For me, it’s just nice to see my kids clean their rooms. As a family, we also like to get outside to see nature. I’m a big fan of animals and what better way to see them, but in their natural environment. Sometimes we take pictures of the animals . . . if we’re fast enough.

From The Editor: The New Year is finally here. Time to make a list of all the things we want to do and see. For me, making a list is easy. I always have goals for not only myself, but also for my family, and Stories for Children Magazine. One goal this year is to bring you, our readers, more wonderful stories, articles, crafts, recipes, book reviews, and wonderfully talented Feature Guests to share the imaginative World of Ink. I know you’ll see the hard work the SFC Team has put into Stories for Children Magazine for 2008. We have selected some imaginative and creative stories and articles to share with you. Stories for Children Magazine December 2007

Stories for Children Magazine December 2007Stories for Children Magazine December 2007 (e-book)

eBook: $3.99

From The Editor: The holiday season is finally here. Many will be celebrating: Christmas, Hanukkah, Eid Al Adha, and many other religious and cultural holidays this month. At my house, we will be celebrating Christmas. Decorating the front yard, trimming the tree, and singing Christmas Carols. If I’m lucky, I’ll get my kids to go on a hay ride. There is nothing better than an old-fashioned hay ride, drinking hot chocolate, and telling old time Christmas stories. I love December because we all come together. No one cares if you’re Catholic, Buddhist, Mormon, Jewish, Muslim, or one of the many other faiths around the world. We all celebrate the closing of one year and the beginning of another. We celebrate humanity by giving to those in need. We spend time with family and friends. We all seem to be a little nicer to everyone. And, in the end, if you really think about it, we’re not that different at all. Happy Holidays, VS Grenier, Editor-in-Chief

Stories for Children Magazine November 2007

Stories for Children Magazine November 2007Stories for Children Magazine November 2007 (e-book)

eBook: $3.99

From The Editor: The air outside bites with bitter cold teeth. The night’s, long dark tunnels, I run through to find the sun. Warm fires to roast marshmallows and chestnuts in. Family get togethers. The smells of pumpkin pie, roasted turkey, and the smooth rich taste of my mother’s chocolate pie. Ah, the wonders of Autumn. November is a time to think about family traditions. What does your family do during November? My family goes for hay rides, hikes in the red mountains of Utah, and, of course, we have everyone together for Thanksgiving dinner. Each family group brings something to the feast. We have turkey cooked by my step-dad, the best chocolate pie from my mom, green-bean salad from my step-mom, and my dad always has to bring the cranberry sauce. The best part for me, is watching all four of my parents sitting around the table. I’m lucky that Thanksgiving can bring my family together. Even if it’s only once a year. All the best, VS Grenier, Editor-in-Chief
