The earliest published sources have been consulted whilst compiling this edition, but it takes account of the performing tradition of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company and includes the spoken dialogue. The accompaniment has been partly revised to include important orchestral passages omitted from previously published scores. The score is annotated where it deviates in substance from the score and libretto published in the authors' lifetimes. Used by New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players to prepare for their production in 2008.
