Stress is recognized as a major problem. Figures released by the UK Health & Safety Executive indicate that approximately 13 million working days are lost each year in Britain due to work-related stress and that as a result British industry loses £370 million a year because of stress, while the cost to society in Britain as a whole could be £3.75 billion.

There have been numerous recent high profile compensation awards for stress related illness and all the indications are that we have only seen the tip of the iceberg.
