A Lonely ChildA Lonely Child (book)Download: $7.85 Hardcover Print: $21.19 A Collection of poetry written by a looked after child expressing different aspects of life that she has encountered from the age of twelve to eighteen. She covers topics such as grief, self- harm and romance. Each section is described in detail outlining the origins of the poems in the section and how they have influenced her in her further writings. Each poem is very close to her and is written in such depth that it has captured every readers emotions so far. She wishes to open the eyes of the reader to a looked after child's struggle even though every child is different. The author has also said that ten percent of all royalties will go to The Wallace and Gromit Appeal for Alex Ross who was a student at her school and ten percent will go to Cancer Research UK for nan and her English teacher who have been a brilliant support to her. My life has been very difficult and I'm not seeking sympathy. I just wish to make people aware of what life is like for a young looked after child and how children feel when they self harm. I have been a self harmer and I have inflicted pain on myself but I had my reasons and my poetry has made me see how difficult life can be..
I lived with my mum and dad with my brother an two sisters until I was twelve. I was taken into care in 2002 by Gloucestershire Social Services on the grounds of neglect but my parents were ill and incapable of looking after my siblings and I. I spent nearly 6 years in care and went through a lot of problems in my life. my poetry became a coping mechanism and expressed my feelings better than verbally. |
